Located literally on the river, this is open air, local bathing at its best. It is free and very public. Mostly old people go here and I ddin't see any westerners here. There is a little collection of pools and a foot pool. A few metal change rooms, but apart from that it's all very basic. The pools do get drained and cleaned daily though with a good big broom. Some locals just swam in the river, it was a bit too hot to enjoy hot springs in September (it was 32 degrees celcius most days!) but maybe in winter!

LOVED the views of the river, waterfall, and mountains. Great ride up and plenty of things to do including: food, performances, archery, rowboats, wishes, AND MORE!!!!!!!!

It s simple and interesting to travel by public mrt n bus, look up the web on Taipei attraction for bus nos. n mrt line to connect to make this day trip. After one half hr of bus trip u arrive at Wulai bus terminus where everyone will alight. Then walk forward to the hot springs township straight ahead. It is not difficult as everyone is walking towards it. Once u r in the township there r rows of shop houses selling yummy Taiwanese food to snacks and lots of Hot spring spas r welcoming u. I missed the "golden" tea eggs that was brewed for hours in tea and other special ingredients that giv u that flavourful hard boiled egg taste that Taiwian is v proud of. It is a souvenir gift u can get for friends and relatives. Take your pick to their Taiwanese meals fm soup to variouus stir fried vegs to their young succulent bamboo shoots which is v well cooked and there is no smell unlike those that r cooked in Thailand. The porky pig and innards have various stores and o coz not forgetting the famous sausages that r sold, however it is more sweet than savoury but crunchy. Disapptd no one sold mee sua here w its plum fresh oysters with its special broth. The best I had was at the Chinese temple sold by a elderly woman not the famous one at Ximenting which innards r still tough. With a satisfied tummy it is time to walk pass the bridge and take in the scenic spots and photoshoot. Then just follow the trail up the slopes up to find the Wulai Falls that s very refreshing and good spot for photoshoot against the green foliage and mountainuous background. While strolling along u ll c people enjoying the public hot springs which is free. Those lower r spas where u hv to pay. Then u ll c a totem pole and quite alot of stray dogs though. At the upper station u can wait for the cucu train to take u up further to have a breathtaking view of Wulai and of course there r some tourist shops for sourvenirs and there is a haunted house w a i t i n g for u if u r game. After a wonderful leisure scenic and relaxing trip n photoshoot u repeat your descent leisurely and slowly feeling v refreshed and satisfied having nature recuperate your tired soul.Worthwhile refreshing trip ..... pl enjoy it as I did v much on my Taipei trip.

We came here for the hot spring basically. Its an old town. Its less crowded here compare to the city. You get to soak in the nature. We went up to the Wu Lai Waterfall and just spend a few mins sitting there enjoying the sound and sight of the fall. We felt relaxed.

Wulai is really a small town, good for a day trip from Taipei. It is fairly easy to reach here. You need to take mrt to Xindian station and board bus 849 right outside the station. THe whole trip can be covered by Easycard. There are not many things to do. I went to Wulai Fall, which is average but according to the local, it is the most impressive fall in the area... It is ok for a short nice stroll around the area and ideal for a short break from city. You can find many places offering hot springs and aboriginal food. The bamboo sticky rice is a must-eat. I would also recommend the mountain veggie and chicken. There are many food street in Wulai old street ranging from almond soy bean, hot springs eggs, taro ball...In all, I wouldnt recommend to stay here overnight

There are a few things you can do when you visit - visit the Wulai Atayal museum, take the train to the waterfall, go to the hot springs and eat some nice food on the old street. While I wouldn't say this is a must-do if you have limited time, it's something you can go when you have a week in Taipei. Speaking of fees, yes you have to pay for the toy train ride. There's also the cable car but we skipped it as it seemed expensive.

If you come here for the hot spring, it is execptional. From the bridge at the end of food street, look down to the river on your right, you will see lots of people in bathsuit. That is where the public bath is located. There are hot and very hot water tubs which are a lot better than Beitou due to odorless and colorless water. You can also swim in the nearby river, too. It is a bit danger as I dont see any watchperson around. Remember to tie a rope around your belly before jumping in the river. If you want to go for Neidong Forest Trail, it is around 5km away to the entrance. You can rent a bicycle from Wulai to get there or get a taxi. The valey along the road is very beautiful.

Hot spring lovers should visit this place at least once, since it has a lot to offer. Beitou is great, but this place is not too bad either.

This is a lovely area with lots to see from the old town with all the street sellers to the cable car taking you high up the mountain finding a small hotel up there and a nice walking area.
