This place has more to explore than just the falls. The key to this is to ask the locals and socialize a bit. Because the more you go interior into the forest, the more picturesque it is and it's best to do this if you are a bunch of boys ready for some adventure! Though it's necessary to be cautious as it can be risky. The drive to the falls is another treat to the eyes and it's better to take the road via chalakudy. There are enough parking spaces. Finding a good restaurant around can be a bit hard and you'll have to run downhill or go to ernakulam to find quality dines. Best to avoid planning your trip in the middle of the day, though the trees gives some shade it can get really warm at the falls. One must visit place in Kerala.

I can’t remember or count how many times I have been to this place, but, I can say that the longest gap between my two visits to this place was never more than 2 years!! This is a fabulous place and I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Kerala. If you are a nature lover, you will love to be here. You have the advantage of viewing this waterfalls from the top and can also get down to the misty bottom for a better feel. Vazhachal is another beautiful place just about 5km from here. I can’t remember another place that I have frequented and loved like this one. Well, I must admit the fact that this place is close to my home in Kerala which may be a reason for my regular trips. This place is only about 90 minutes’ drive from Kochi Airport! So don’t miss this place during your Kerala trip.

Kerala state do not have a bigger waterfall which is available all around the year ..the best is during the monsoon. this fall is s situated 1000 ft above sea level on the Chalakudy river, at the entrance to the Sholayar ranges of the Western Ghats, Athirappalli is a scenic combination of forests and little streams. Falling from a height of 80 feet, this is one of the largest waterfalls in the state and country this is easily approchable from cochin airport those tourists from Cochin and other northern side of Kerala can take a short cut from Angamaly. After Passing Angamaly take right turn after the bridge. This route will pass through Mookkannoor, Edalakadu, Ezhattumugham, Palm Oil Plantation and connect to Athirapilly Vazhachal route. This route can save time, distance and you can enjoy nature.

Its massiveness can only be experienced from up close.Pictures can’t justify the beauty of the falls. It is easily the Niagara of India. It is also possible to trek down via a dirt/stone pathway. Do carry a spare set of clothes and anti-skid footwear.Parking can be an problem as the place is usually very crowded especially over weekends and holidays.

Very nice water fall about 75 kms from ernakulam, having lush greenery and well maintained, if you go down to the bottom very nice view

Amazing place to just see the force of nature and the beauty of God. If you stay close to it just wonderful.

Such a huge falls... Comes in most of the film scenes. Huge falls , not to take bath in main falls as it has very huge density of water with heavy pressure. Amazing collection of rocks to sit and take pictures in front of the main falls. Such an amazing trekking down to see the falls and take best pictures.

Nature at its best - but go there only if you don't mind walking. There is some 500mtr distance from the gate to the river - and another trek down (through stone pathway) if you want to see the actual grandeur of the falls. I would highly recommend going down to the base of the waterfall. It is not very convenient but worth it. It is picture perfect!!! We also visited Vazachal - near Athirapally falls - this was peaceful too but you cannot get close to the water or falls like Athirapally. There are a couple of snack shops and washroom facility. Overall a wonderful tryst with nature - mostly untouched and untamed. Don't go there expecting any activities. There are shops outside selling all kinds of memorabilia and trinkets - in case you also want to shop.

Athirapalli Falls also known as "Suren Chellakutti Falls" is situated in Athirappilly panchayath in Thrissur district of Kerala, on the southwest coast of India. Located on the west-flowing Chalakudy River near the Vazhachal Forest Division and the Sholayar ranges

I must say this is an average or a bit above average place to be at. I went there yesterday, and I must say it was crowded. There are safety barricades around, and lot of people having a dip in the river. The falls are quite high as one can see from safe distance. The main attraction still is the roads to this place. Narrow but superb winding roads. Auto enthusiasts would love it. There are shops near the waterfall and it's a bit overpriced. Better to carry your own water bottle. The place should be a good visit during monsoons. Fees per Adult -30Still cam -20Light motor -20video cam - 200 I would suggest that you take a good mobile with you and save the 20 on the still cam. Nothing much to capture, at least in the dry season.

Highly recommended visit when you are in Cochin. Great view and good experience when you go down 40 ~ 50 feet. Careful if you have elders and children as the trek to the fall is very steep and need absolute attention. Don't miss/forget to carry water bottle as you don't get water when you trek down/up the rough terrain. Half day activity and good if you leave early in the morning, say reach by 8 or 9am and can do the 2nd half in cochin. Not recommended for over night stay but a day visit if you can, surely will enjoy. Have a wonderful holiday !!

It is the largest waterfall in Kerala and is nicknamed "The Niagara of India" Its about 80 ft waterfall and the nearby Vazhachal Falls are popular tourist destinations. The river initially runs smoothly but becomes more turbulent as it nears Athirappilly. At Athirappilly Falls, the water surges around big rocks and cascades down in three separate plumes.

Beautiful falls but need to visit in the right time. I guess best time would be from June to December. Ride/drive through the forest area is very nice, specially just after monsoon. You have very tall grown grass on each side of the roads just like walls. A must visit place.

We went to Athirapally falls along with friends with lots of expectations but sadly nothing was there to see. The water flow was too less , temperature very hot and no scenic beauty. Athirapally falls was the first destination in our itenary and that's where all our disappointed began. We found it very boring and were very very disappointed. We have seen better waterfalls in other locations in India which is not as hyped as athirapally but definitely had some scenic beauty. This place was utter waste of time. And the funny part is you get to see side view of the fall and not front view. Though the property is well maintained by tourism department but there is nothing to see here.
