Hatu Peak was the ultimate destination of our snow drive. Only 4x4 vehicles are allowed to go to the top and we came well prepared. The entire 6km stretch was covered with snow and at some places the snow cover was ~2 feet.Only 5 vehicles from a convoy of 12 could make it because it requires some great driving skills in the snow. I was one of the lucky ones to reach ~ 4.5 Kms from the start. however, due to heavy snow cover, we could not go beyond 4.5 Kms. Please be very careful if you try and attempt taking your jeep as the snow is quite slippery.

Beyond a reasonable doubt, road to Hatu peak is one of the most difficult drive for urban drivers...an experience we all crave for...the thrill we all seek. After having lunch at HPTDC hotel Hatu, Narkanda (good food,, reasonable price) there is a very narrow uphill road which goes to Hatu temple, 6 km from the hotel... drive can take up to one hr. This lonely road is often covered with snow, has pot holed road and traffic is sparse... but the sound of silence is what bothers you the most amidst unparalleled raw natural beauty... extreme caution while driving is required since it is a single road.We often parked our on the side snow and took a stroll clicking photos...great experience...loved it. You can't click a bad pic here....its so picturesque...Traveling tip: This 6 km road has very sparse traffic... no lights...no shops and feeble cell phone signal... ensure you travel in day time...Loved the drive more than anything else... loved the adrenaline rush...the thrill of it...hence this review...which says nothing about the temple but the drive...Must see attraction if you're in that area!

Went to Hatu Peak for Independence day long weekend in 2014. When all hill stations where buffed up by tourists, our group could enjoy a lone stay at the peak. The view at the top was just breathtaking and also inspiring. The moment of self realisation where you understand that life is not what you think of it and is much beyond your perception. Was there on 11th Jan. It was snow all around. Loved the 360 degree view of himalyas from the top. And the best part, we(3) were all alone during the entire trek.(eternal peace _/\_)Tip: You can avoid normal road and look for shortcuts to make it more adventurous.

Firstly, don't drive, walk upto the temple, no matter what you hear or read otherwise. it's a very nice gradual road and anybody who is reasonably fit can walk up and down.Total length is 6 km with elevation gain of ~ 700M. As long as you have good boots ( water proof), this can be done in winters as well. Again, don't listen to what locals say that it is difficult, closed etc, just start walking and you will find that it's nice and easy. You could always turn back if you find the going difficult. We went up with our kids ( 7 & 12) and it took us 2.30 hrs to go up and 1.30 to come down. There is plenty of snow after 3 KM and kids can have lot of fun. As has been said in other reviews, take plenty of water and some energy bars.Narkanda is ~60 km from Shimla and a good 2 hrs drive one way, some stretch of road is iced, be cautious when driving. After getting down, have food at Himalayan dhaba, food comes fast. It's not a fancy place, but we didn't have any stomach issues with roti and daal.

Go out there in the morning and watch the beautiful sunrise from behind the mountains. Watch the deep valley from the hatu peak top and feel the clouds touch you.

A beautiful hill trek took us to the top. We went there by car, but regretted that it have been better to be there on foot. There is a beautiful temple on top of the "Hatu peak"". The shrine was visited by a lot of locals who performed special worship. But most importantly the place provided a wonderful, 360 degree panaromic view of the Himalayas. This was the hallmark of our Narkand visit. One vsiting Narkand should never miss this wonderful place.

It was awesome to stand there and be face to face with the Himalayas and watch the sun set beyond the horizon. It was a once in a lifetime experience that I would love to re-live over and over again!

Yes, this peak allows you to drive up till Peak Top, but this drive with numerous bent, hair pin curve, super slopes & sudden hikes, hill road has it all. Just a few KMs from Apple town of Narkanda, you continue driving on NH22, you will find a uphill road, not recommended in monsoon & winters during snowfall. Road is only good for 1 car at a time, so blow horn on turns. Well once you reach on top, what you get is Lion's share of Nature, with superb 360 degree view from peak top, witness the entire Himalayan range right from Nanda Devi in UK to Dhauladhar in HP, so in good sunny day, you would not be able to take your eyes off the Himalayas and beauty around this hill top. There is a temple, which recently got renovated, and is visited by thousands of locals and travellers around the year.Go there for all the reasons, but do not drive on this Hatu peak road if you are not 'sure of hill drives'. Nature is at its best with seasonal wild flowers, birds, and the wide Himalayaaaaaaas...

Nothing to dislike. No pollution. Few Tourists and Just 2 hours from Shimla... you can ski too. There are other options for luxury hotels but in my view this is the best budget option.

Hatu was not in our itinerary, but when we met a localite and his explanation of this place got us curious. The roads are narrow and drive is thrilling. Experienced driver is a must. As we drove up on the twisty roads cloud started setting in. With the huge trees and cloud it looks bit spooky too. But as we reached the top the clouds moved and we got some clear sky view of the neighboring peaks. The view is simply breath taking. It took us some time to sulk in. At one side we had valley full with pine trees and in the back drop snow clad peaks. There is a less known place called Jau Baag. One has to walk for 20 mins through the pine forest to get to the Jau Baag. Lucky for us that we were accompanied by the localities. There are various plants in these forests of medicinal importance. We could also get some raspberries while walking through the forest. We reached at Hatu Temple by 17:30 and I guess the sun light was good for clicking. This has been a highlight in our trip as it was unplanned and was heavenly.

A hair-raising drive! I would highly recommend a very experienced driver to take you up this one, and probably local for conditions and knowledge of this track. But having said that, it's breathtaking and beautiful! Worth the drive which will take around 30mins or an 8km walk.We went up late afternoon and enjoyed the soft lighting and enjoyed a beer overlooking the view.
