Great park for families with gardens, miniature railway, pony rides, horse & carriage rides, boating lake, outdoor swimming pools, amusement park etc.

Lots of Kazakh couples take wedding photos there.really interesting and fun to watch. Very green, even with book borrowing corners.

I was meeting with some friends in Almaty and they suggested we head to Gorky park, another name for this park.. It is quite a big park with fun fare type attractions for kids. Great to walk around and spend a relaxing evening here.. There was a free concert taking place here which was amazing!

Our group loved this place. The grounds are just beautiful and very nicely kept up too. The kids loved to run and literally smell the flowers. Visiting here was a highlight of our 2 month trip to Almaty. We spent many happy hours here.

Big park with a luna park and a few cafe/restaurants. Lovely to chill out on a hot day especially at the side of the big lake in the middle of it

I've been to Almaty over 30x and was pleasantly surprised the first time I went to this park. It's a good place to go to walk around and is a very good size and the entrance fee converted to ~30 cents USD. You can grab lunch w/outside seating in the center of the park by the lake. Good 2-3 hour outdoor experience.

I liked this park even though each time I went there it was either snowing or had just snowed. In winter it is amazing and very beautiful. If you have ice skates, they clear a section of the lake for skating as soon as the ice is safe. The amusement park was not operating while I visited, but it was snowing so really who wants to be sung around while being blasted in the face with snow?? There was paintball operating but I was not game to try as I know they hurt in the warm, so I can imagine how bad it is in the cold. Take the trolley bus from the city centrum and it goes down the road past the parks, then turns around an goes back. The Zoo and a water park are both located in the park. The was a small entry fee and you pay as you use each facility. There is even a cinema and what looked like a restaurant and childrens play house there. Typical ice cream sells and carnival foods abounded. The entry fee was about 50 Tenge if I remember rightly, about 30 cents US. I have been told it is amazingly beautiful in summer so I have decided a return visit is a definite, maybe I will see you there. :) Look out for the reminder of times gone by, the decrepit auditorium.

when we walk down the park we were like in the time tunnel. Timing was in the 30-40 years ago at the cold war age. Pretty quiet very huge trees and everywhere was green.100's tones of green. City is incredible green too, image the park then. Statues and sculptures are becaming communist regime.Very vintage experience, park and city eighter.

We spent almost an entire day in Gorky Park on a family vacation to Almaty. Once there the park is easy to navigate and has a variety of attractions for everyone. The crowds were small when we went on a weekday. Rides didn't have much of a wait and food/drink options were plentiful. Overall a positive experience and I would recommend for anyone in Almaty for a few days with younger children.

Most of its area looks like a forest, could be good as plenty of trees make the air fresh, valuable for Almaty. Good looking ponds, but dirty and plenty of litter on pavements as some locals don't really care of it. Amusement park is ok, not up to European standards- old soviet style, but feels rather welcome anyway.

The entry fee here is about 50 cents so while there is a charge it is so nominal as to not matter. The park is broken into several areas the main entrance is a well manicured and landscaped and is a walking area. There is also a carnival area with some kiddie rides. Most of them were not working the day we went and those that were were sparsely attended. While Panfilov Park is basically right down a Main Street from the core hotel areas Gorky is further out of the way. It is a cheap cab ride but a longer walk than the park warrants.

I love this park. Panfilov is right next to where i live but i still prefer Gorky to it. The only downside is that you have to pay for parking in front of it, and, to my amazement, you have to pay an entrance fee. It is really peanuts, but i have never heard of fees to enter a public park.Otherwise well maintained, nice flowers and lush greenery and a theme park (albeit from a soviet era) for children. An added bonus is a nice restaurant opposite the house of fear, cheap and scarce in offer but VERY delicious food. All in all, despite being built in a very unpopular architecture - wise times, it is a pleasant place to spend a relaxed afternoon. I would maybe add a small artificial lake and some fauna and St. James Park - watch out!

One of the biggest parks in the city. Brought back a lot of childhood memories. I really enjoyed my time here. Although it is not really in the "center" of the city.
