Wonderful place to spend a Sunday afternoon. Colorful structure, very active, situated in a large park.

The church was full of worshipers on Sunday afternoon. There was actually a line of people waiting to buy candles- the line was moving so slowly that I gave up my initial intent to light a candle. As with all orthodox churches, the decorations inside were impressive. Definitively worth seeing, both from the outside, and from the inside.

We walked to the cathedral on a Saturday evening from our hotel about three blocks away, and were fortunate to find a mass in progress. The cathedral itself is stunning, with an amazing decorated exterior with several domes, and a gorgeous interior full of icons and other artwork, but the mass made the experience spectacular. The choir was so good that they made the ope\era we saw the night before seem feeble. The Russian Orthodox mass is full of beauty and mystery, and this one was a highlight of our trip to the beautiful city of Almaty. As I dragged my wife reluctantly out of the service, we paused in the outer room, where a charming, tiny pendant with the image of a Russian saint caught her eye. The writing on the pendant is so tiny that we still don't know the name of the saint, but she loves it and has worn it on her necklace ever since we bought it.

The church is nice on the outside and inside, its diferent than most of the churches in western europe. The Russian Orthodox influence is dominant and I really enjoy the non-traditional colors on the outside.

This wooden Orthodox Cathedral is claimed to be the highest Orthodox wooden building in the world. In Soviet time, it used to be the museum kind of natural science. Than it became a hall for the pipe organ music. And finally it returned to its origin. As it was already spoken, the only building survived after the earthquake at the beginning of the 20th century. Beautiful place!

Really pretty with many decorated icons. You can light candles you purchase at the entry - very inexpensive.

We were taking a lunch break during our conference and decided to walk through a nice park. Imagine our surprise when we came upon this little gem. The colors are bright, sunny, and vibrant. This is a church that is in use, so we did not take pictures inside. But you can still get the feel for the place from walking around the entire exterior of the structure. There is a nice open courtyard in front of the church where kids and their parents stop to feed the hundreds of pigeons that are hanging around waiting for a meal. Great place to spend a sunny afternoon!

Very nice cathedral, all wooden. The amazing fact is that absolutely no nails and glue was used, only locked in pieces of wood and this is why it was the only building to survive the 1910 earthquake. Amazing. Worth a quick visit, park around is quite peaceful as well, though right in the center of Almaty.

Set in a cozy park setting, this church stands out both from the exterior and the ornate interior - definitely one of the highlights of visiting Almaty

Both the interior & exterior of Zenkov Cathedral are visually very striking. It is just such a shame that you are not allowed to take pictures inside. The interior is crammed with ornate wall decorations and religious artifacts which create a fascinating religious intensity.

The beauty of this old wooden cathedral should make it a must-see for any visit to Almaty. It provides a great photo opportunity.Just head to Panfilov Park and walk towards the centre and you'll find the cathedral. There is no fee to walk around the outside taking photos.

The colours of this Cathedral and its rich interior make it one of the most important sights to see in the city. Surrounded by Panfilov Park, the setting too, is superb.

I went to this on a Friday evening. My tour guide said that it was one of the highest free-standing wooden cathedrals in the world. I went inside during the mass. There were people standing around and the inside was very ornate. The only thing I didn't like is there were no English signs to talk about the place. Otherwise, it was a very good place to visit.
