Situated right in the middle of downtown Kuching,along Main Bazaar and facing the oldest temple in the State - the "Tua Pek Kong" - the Chinese Museum which was curated by Edric Ong Liang Bin during the era od Datuk Lucas Chin the Curator the the Sarawak Museum - is an accurate and concise story of the early Chinese settlers.The highlight display is focused on the family of the First Chinese Kapitan (Chieftain) Ong Ewe Hai and his successor, his son Ong Tiang Swee; both of whom -together with 4 other succeeding family members, have roads named after them in this small city of 650,000 population!A visit would be more than worthwhile for all tourists and local Chinese, and spend more than 30 minutes to get real value for money. The place is small and compact and it also fronts the Sarawak River,a scenic tourist attraction by itself.

A very nicely curated and preserved museum. It's easy to miss but if you spot the James Brook restaurant by the river then this museum is right next door. The presentation is amazing and it's great to see the Chinese contribution to Kuching.

I spent an interesting couple of hours in this museum.The curator was very helpful and an interesting guy to chat to.I would recommend a visit to form an unbiased view of the contribution of the Chinese in Sarawak.

FREE entry.Main entrance faces the waterfront so it might seem closed from the main road. It's opposite the road from the tua pek kong.Strictly no photo inside the exhibition. Had to resist even my hands were itching to capture the wonders in the museum. Upon entering, we were directed by the caretaker to go into a room to watch the introductory video. Reminded me a bit of Angkor National Museum. The video showed how the Chinese arrived in Kuching. Kinda cute la =p Especially that durian incident.Spend at least half an hour here to enjoy the wealth of knowledge on display. Seriously. So much info cramped into a small building. Effective use of space, I'd say.

This is an interesting small museum next to the Hornbill Fountain on the Esplanade. It highlights the cultural contribution the Chinese have made to the region. If you have a spare half an hour to an hour its well worth the visit to assist in understanding the history of the region.

We were not intending to go to the museum but it was so hot that we just escaped from the heat. It was worth visiting it. It is a small museum with lots of information about the chinese immigration to Kuching. There was a lot of board with text to read and less actual artefacts to look at. I would say the museum represents different branches of chinese coming to Kuching.

If you're interested in understanding the essentials of the Chinese diaspora of not only Sarawak but of South East Asia this is the best 1/2 hr you can spend in Kuching Must visit. Beautifully put together and displayed with great visuals and some artefacts.

I love visiting museums... Therefore, It is interesting to see a short video clip played in a room, about how Chinese came from China and how they assimilated their culture. Then, we went to browse to all the Chinese ethnics groups on the mini gallery.In shorts, it is kind of small but straight to the point kind of facts inside the museum.

This museum is along the river and is quite easy to spot. Do check it out if you are around the area. The information is well presented and best thing is it is free and there is air con! =)

Well worth visiting! It is small but very well documented on the migration pattern and different languages spoken. Located on the waterfront.

Interesting reading as the Chinese made a huge impact to Sarawak. Situated right on the river front it's easily accessible.

this is one place solely funded by the locals to upkeep and restore this muzuem. The number of antiques and also the write ups on the early chinese migrants is just great.Never miss this place while in Sarawak.

It's free, and on the riverside walk, so if you want to learn more about the Chinese immigration into Kuching and see interesting photographs this is a must place to visit. You can then walk up into Carpenter Street in the heart of Chinatown and get a taste of the Chinese community and temple nearby. Lots of cheap eating places to be had in Chinatown.
