Ingrid C comments "This beach cannot compare to many other gorgeous, white sand beaches in the Caribbean and Belize" ...BELIZE??? Are you serious? Luquillo is not the best beach on the island. Luquillo is known for the view of El Yunque Luquillo is well-maintained beach, and it have its seasons. Also, keep in mind, Puerto Rico is an archipelago and is mountainous, meaning more water poured in the sea. Also, the island is volcanic just like Hawaii. Luquillo is a pretty beach. Comparing Luquillo to the best of Belize is silly. La Playuela would make more sense or Caja de Muertos.

If you are on the main island of Puerto Rico, then I would suggest this beach. Its definitely a tourist spot as it is a public beach and is close to the Kiosks, but that has its benefits sometimes. For example, you can rent lounge chairs and umbrellas. So, although we like to go to private beaches, for a public beach close to food, its a good option. We also thought the swimming at this beach was good. There are no waves as oppose to Luquillo beach, so for lounging in the water it has a real caribbean feel. Unfortunately there is petty crime in the area. My phone was stolen while staying in Luquillo, so I don't have any pictures to share. Just don't take a lot with you on the beach and use common sense about leaving your stuff around.

Nice swimming beach next to kiosks. Very family-friendly. Loved exploring the whole area as it's quite beautiful.

At the risk of being boo'd by others, I have to say we were disappointed in this beach. This beach cannot compare to many other gorgeous, white sand beaches in the Caribbean and Belize, for example. Yes, it is cheap to park. But it is a very large beach and a haul to carry a lot of stuff here as a "day tripper". The beach has clumps of debris (leaves, stuff from the ocean, etc.) and it just does not make a super inviting beach IMHO. I recall the water having quite a drop-off, too.

We paid about $5 to park there and had a pleasant time there. Lots of food vendors and facilities are provided. Heard it is "safe" compared to other beaches, meaning there are little or no riptides present. Bring plenty of sunblock, we got burned. Don't blame the beach on that one...

The beaches are incredible and many local places to eat nearby. I suggest boardriders, pasta pueblo and brass cactus.

Loved the beautiful beach with good snorkeling. Did not like the fact that there were no life guards on duty.

Well worth the small entrance fee ($4.28) for the lovely peaceful park and water. Also, snack bar is good and little gift shop is LOADED with wonderful items...clothing & odd items...for very reasonable prices!

We went to this beach with our extended family and everyone had a great time. We went during the week and it was fairly empty. The parking charge was reasonable, at $4 for the day. I recommend you pack your own food and beverage if you are going for a while.Otherwise, the kiosks are nearby and where we went for lunch.

Our concierge touted it as one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. It is not that. It is an okay beach. Great for swimming. Not for waves. Very few waves. A pleasant beach.

Great beach for just hanging out. Always calm, no currents or rips. There is a lot of garbage just back from the beach but don't let that put you off. Just behind the beach are the Loquillo kiosks - lots of restaurants and bars for lunch or a drink.

Easy place to get to and to park. Costs about $4 for parking. There are little stands for drinks and a bit to eat right on the beach. A short walk takes you to the kiosks. Nice soft sand into the water. Beautiful.

I've been to Isla Verde, Condado, Vega Baja, and Ocean Park beaches. However, the best one that we can actually relax in and spend half a day is actually Luquillo beach. this Balneario (public beach in Spanish) has food stands, is clean, and huge, so even though there are many people, you can still have a spot at the beach.

During our 12 day stay we visited this beach twice. It is awesome. There are no waves and yo can just let the little ones play. We took a 12 year old and a 17 year old and they both enjoyed it. The ice-cream vender comes by often and you have to try it. The food at the concession stand is cheap enough and of course the Kiosks are just around the bend. I highly suggest visiting this beach.
