We just stopped in to Cooper's Hawk Vineyard this afternoon during our afternoon drive. We were wanting to take in the sights of the area and this vineyard caught our eye. We had a wonderful visit. Maria took us through a wonderful wine tasting. She determined things we did and did not enjoy and made excellent recommendations for wines that she thought we would appreciate. We also had the opportunity to chat with one of the owners Tom. Everyone was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We walked away happy with our wine selections and look forward to future visits.

Wow, warm and welcoming staff. They are very knowledgable about the wine they serve. Tom one of the owners gave our group a personal tour. He talked about the winery, the property and the history of the area. I did not know that the composition of the soil plays a part in how a wine will taste. There is an event room for private parties and functions, and beautiful grounds. Several guest sitting outside enjoying the afternoon sun drinking their wine. There is also a small play area for kids and a hill for them to run on. There was a family having a picnic with their kids, very family orientated.I have shared their wine with many of my friends. I can not leave the county now if I don 't bring the wine to London, St Tomas, Toronto and Oak Ville. Lol I have great friends. I even have my friends from Chicago making requests for when we visit.Repeat favourites are Cab Merlot Reserve, and Touché

Last month I went on a tour of some local winery's. I would highly recommend to visit . You will not be disappointed. The one winery that I would go back to visit again would be Cooper's hawk . Set back off a little farm road draws your attention . Once inside you will enjoy every moment. One of the best wines I have had!! Ann

Driving down Iler Road is a treat in itself. And then... Coopers Hawk captures ones attention with its impressive vineyards lined up along the road - each labeled by grape. As you drive into the winery, a sense of calm washes over you. You quickly realize this is a place you can bring your entire family with the expansive land, beautiful environmentally friendly ponds, playground, amphitheatre, dining room, outdoor patio and gift shop - not to mention the actual tasting area! Walking into Coopers Hawk Winery is like walking into your best friends home. The staff is warm and welcoming - immediately offering you a taste of one of their many delicious wines (my fav is the Cab Franc Reserve). Quite often - Tom O'Brien will come out and greet you himself. If he's not too busy crushing grapes, he may even give you a personal tour. Winemaker, Rori Mccaw has been known to do the same. If you're really lucky, she'll even test out her latest blend on you. Be sure to catch Alexander Zonjic and friends one evening for an elegant, exquisite and irresistible night out. For those weekend afternoons when your family is looking for something different to do... pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the afternoon sipping a glass of wine on the outdoor patio as the kids run around on the playground. This is what life in Essex County is all about.*

We intended to buy only 4 bottles of wine in Ontario. We ended up buying 10 and 4 were from Cooper's Hawk! We bought two Chardonnay / musque blend. Considering we don't generally like Chardonnay, that's impressive! Also a Cabernet Franc that was incredible and a merlot blend that was divine. We spent the entire time talking to the wine maker Rori. What a wonderful experience. If you're in the area, please stop by. It's totally worth it.

Greg, Thanks your your comments, this past winter the vines were severely damaged by the cold. We lost almost all buds that produce grapes and therefore will have a very small harvest this year. The vines had to be cut back to the root stock so they don't look their best. It will take time to get back to normal. As for tastings all fees, they are waived with any purchase. Plus any tasting fees we do collect are donated to the Essex Region Conservation Foundation, the money is used to help preserve the natural areas is Essex County. Also we are restricted by the amount we can pour to 1oz by the AGCO. We hope that you return again and we always strive to improve so we thank you for your feedback.

Cooper's Hawk is just one of six local vineyards to highlight a special wine for celebration of the War of 1812. We drove out here in the wine area of our county to start out collection. Cooper's Hawk is situated in the middle of a large farming area and some of the features of the vineyard are: paved roads, plenty of paved parking, a dining area and a very generous tasting area around a central bar. Very nice facilities.

Of the five wineries in the Harrow/Lake Erie area we toured, this one rocked the house big time. First of all, the wine tasting room was gorgeous - homey and elegant at the same time. Then, can't say enough good stuff about the staff. Lot of positive energy here. Tom was enthusiastic about the wines and his attitude was contagious. Then the winemaker herself, Rorrie, visited with us and participated in the tasting with tips and observations, showing a true concern for our experience there. There is a fee listed for tasting, but after a couple of what were the most generous 'tastes' offered in any winery we'd visited, we bought glasses of dynamite Merlot Cab and a Chard to sip outdoors and were only charged for that. And this was the only place that gave anything to munch with the tasting - some great Melba type snacks and a spicy spread. The Adirondack chairs outside on the sprawling lawn were comfy and the scenery was stunning - pastoral farmland that stretched for miles, bordered by deep green forests. An owner of the place asked to join another party seated nearby and much fun was enjoyed by all.

We were our our fourth Erie Winery tour and this was the best winery this year. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and give good hints about the wines they offer, local inns and restaurants. A must Winery to visit.
