This 87 year old rink takes you back to a simpler time. Allows you to just relax, breath fresh air and enjoy being nostalgic. It's therapy :) A true Gem , a must experience. Gary and Lisa make you feel Welcome and treat you like family . Old wooden change house with fire burning stove and lots of hot chocolate and hot cider . A MUST experience !!!

Cedarena is located just North East of Toronto, Ontario in the City Of Markham. The skating rink has been writen about in newspapers and featured on local news stations over the years. The rink and it's facade is dated which makes the environment wonderful and laid back. With old time music belted out over decades old speakers. The water is pumped in from the river nearby and is dependant on Mother Nature to freeze. Skating outdoors is wonderful at this ice rink also for being surrounded by evergreen trees gives a serene feeling. I thought the staff were pleasant. The day my daughter and I went on a Sunday afternoon, there was a constant flow of patrons there. It was no way crowded, but "busy" for a well kept secret. There are few things in life worth trying at least once for the first time and Cedarena is one of them.

Spring fed hockey sized rink so the quality depends on the weather. Admission was $5.00 and the best part is the big change room/snack bar area with a woodstove providing heat. The ice is kept cleared and maintained although getting to it is a bit of chore. It's a steep walk down from the parking lot along a path with a wooden railing and can be interesting when it's icy. The snack bar sells candy bars, hot chocolate, tea and coffee. The last time I was there the man was rather sarcastic for whatever reason, perhaps because there was hardly any people there that night. After that the free rink at the Markham Civic Center opened and have patronised it ever since.

This is like going back to my youth and it is so much fun to share this with your grandchildren or younger folk. One of my most favorite places in Markham.

it's totally old school - walking down the cedar lined path into the valley to the old skating shed to suit up. they play nostalgic music. very fun

Cedarena is like stepping back in time. Though you are at the mercy of Mother nature, when the weather is just right, this is one of the nicest outdoor ice rinks to visit. It is settled in a valley of trees and at night the lights are switched on with some old school music! Very romantic! We try and visit the arena every season, weather and time permitting, and even had our engagement photos taken here. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

A charming private family run ice rink in Markham Ontario, just north of Steels on Reesor Road. Down in a little valley, surrounded by cedars,, is a little shack with benches and a wood stove. Snack bar sells cookies, hot chocolate, coffee etc. Nice place to come in when your feet are cold. Music from years ago plays outside during the evening and afternoon skating. Very quaint! Good for couples, solo skating, or families with children. There is often a 50/50 draw; you can buy tickets at the snack bar. Modest fee at entrance. Free parking.
