About 10 minutes outside of Tamworth, Ontario you will find this very easy walk through an open and treed fen (a bit different than a bog). It is a botanically rich wetland found mostly in large shallow depressions in the landscape. In the middle of the Menzel reserve is Mud Lake, a shallow water body, surrounded by 19 different natural habitats. The nature reserve protects significant wildlife species, including the Olive Hairstreak Butterfly and Cooper's Hawk. The entrance is very easy to miss from the road but once you find it, the actual trail is very well marked.Bring a nice lunch as there is a picnic table at the end of the walk right by the lake. Then you can burn all those calories you just ate on the walk back.
