The lady owner / guide here gave us an amazing tour of the premises and explanation of the process - so very interesting and informative. The entrance to the farm is hard to find but well worth a hour of your time - will definitely appreciate the work that goes into the next bottle of syrup I buy! Ile d'Orleans is a beautiful area to visit and this place is one of the highlights you should go to - great value on the products also.

Old Quebec is quite touristy this time of year, good for the local economies but kind of takes away from the best possible experience. We had no particular destination the next day, decided to let the GPS take us to the closest wine region- Ile d'Orleans is 20 min. from Old Quebec but a verdant world apart. We found much more than wine, all kinds of agricultural produce and many quaint country homes. The Info bureau pointed us to several cidre/wineries; tastings and products were all nice and unique, but the best part was some ~16 miles further towards the tip of the island. Erabliere Boily is tucked into the woods, if driving faster than the 50km/h speed limit you might just miss the signage.Though maple syrup isn't in production this time of year they had a steady flow of small groups of visitors. Margo(?) is a tenth generation family member who runs the operation with her spouse, her ancestors arrived this part of Canada in 1649 and may have learned syrup production from their Indian neighbors; her dad is 92 and still a part of production- she says perhaps a disease of passion! The facility isn't new nor large, Margo was very thorough in describing the process, we learned a few new things even though we've visited maple syrup producers in the past. The unit price of the syrup is the best I've seen so we also bought a bunch at the end. Margo had to answer several workers' questions during our tour, she explained that besides selling maple syrup her family must conduct other farming activities as well. Turns out just beyond the stand of trees they run a trout fishing pond! My 7th and 5th graders broke out their cane rods (they do loan for free nice rod n reels, but my boy n girl are frequently equipped) and had another half hour and 5 fishes (brook and rainbow) worth of fun. You must keep what you land here, pricing was about $4CN per inch with cleaning, bagging services included. This was a superb memorable outing, and just what we needed.

So this place is kind of hidden off the road, and you have to drive through some dense trees a short distance to get to, but the women who gave us our tour was excellent. The product was very good as well. Could have done without the mesquitos.

It was my first visit to a sugar shack ever. The lady gave us a very comprehensive explanation of the processing of maple sap into a variety of products. Very interesting!!

We were amazed at the tour of this complex, we were shown how they get the Sweet water from the trees and the various processes in making the well known Canadian Maple syrup. The factory is an eye opener full of lovely smells and boilers to extract this nectar so well known throughout the world.

We were in the area and drove here based on the previous reviews. Unassuming building set back from the road. The owner also owns the fishing hole next door, she was alone but took care of all the fishermen and then took us through to the erabliere. She explained how the sweet water is collected, and the syrup is made. Nothing fancy but really interesting. We got to taste the delicious syrup and maple butter - and bought a whole lot to take home too ( cash only). Definitely worth the drive for this interesting visit

Ok there is a ton of sugar shack in the Quebec city area but this one is special. Here no restaurant and fancy tours, just a real working operation where the owners will take the time to share their passion for maple products! Here it is about learning the process and challenges of the maple syrup production and of course tasting! The owners are very friendly and willing to take their time explaining the differents steps of the production. The visit is in French but do not let this stop you from visiting them. You can buy maple products at a very reasonable price directly from the producer. Merci monsieur Boily for the great experience

My family & I wanted to visit a "sugar shack" while visiting Quebec so we went to Ile d'Orleans & stopped at the tourist booth at the beginning of the island. The man there recommended going to Erabliere Richard Boily which I am so glas he did. Richard Boily is at the far end of the island so we decided to start there & work our way back. We visited in July which obviously is not maple syrup season so it looked desolate when we pulled into the driveway except for a sign saying "Nous sommes ici (we are here)". We were greeted by the owner who couldn't be nicer & more gracious! First he asked if we spoke French. When I told him that myself & 2 of my 3 children know a little but my husband & 3rd child know none, he told us he would speak in French very slowly for the 3 of us & translate for the rest. This was a fantastic experience for my 2 that study French in school to have real life experience with the language... They loved it! The owner was so informative & he has a true passion for what he does! After the tour, he let us taste the different products(which were awesome) & buy what you'd like. The price was a fraction of what it costs elsewhere! Since we started here & worked our way back across the island, we saw a few other sugar shacks along the way. Although nice, none of them were as authentic & their prices were about 50% more... The others felt a bit like tourist traps but not Richard Boily! Don't miss it!
