Great place to come when you have kids, make sure you come at feeding time and have a guide with you as he is brilliant. I like the way the kids are able to touch the tuatara and the turtle, also its great to see the two penguins they are looking after. Lots of things to look at but its only a small place so dont expect to be therefor ages. Allow an hour. A little old but its clean. Good value for money

This place has seeing better days. Not very much to see. If we had not of visited during their feeding times (2pm and 11am) it would have taken us literally 20 minutes to see everything- that's not anunderstatment! Staff member doing to the feeding was very passionate. Entry of $20 was waypoints high - sorry!

Had a couple of hours to kill before ferry to Wellington so went to the Picton aquarium located close to the terminal. It was quite cool actually - not a big place so took my time. The guide was some tall dude - Jordy (?) and he really seemed to know his stuff and, added with a bit of dry wit, made it quite interesting/entertaining. Well worth the visit - make sure you give yourself the time either before/after the ferry for this place.

The attraction of this shabby- feeling facility was our experience with tour guide Regan. He spoke knowledgeably about the animals and showed compassion for even the lowliest creatures in his care. He rehabilitates cast-off creatures like turtles that had been mistreated or neglected. We were thrilled to be able to gently pet a Tuatara and learn about the habits and life cycle of these rare reptiles. He brought out penguins that were in need of some TLC for us to watch as they fed and frolicked in the big pool. They will be released back into the wild when they are healed.

HiI refer to your review. We are not sure what you mean by “over priced?” We are very careful to price our admission to ensure it is very good value and our 7 day admission benefit so EcoWorld is very accessible to as many visitors as possible. 40,000 plus visitors are prof of this.Re the gecko. Animal welfare is of utmost concern. The gecko is still very much alive. They hang from the mesh ceiling, “dead” still and catch flies in this position. I am sorry about your opinion that the staff don’t speak English??? We have a Japanese and Mandarin speaker to care for our Chinese and Japanese visitors and their English has not been an issue. I admit that it does take a little more attention to easily understand them.Your claim of our overcharging is of concern. The admission prices are clearly displayed on a big sigh behind the admission till. My staff don’t recall anyone complaining of being overcharged!Thank you for your comments about the tuataras. Did you encounter our rehab penguins???

It shows off a good range of NZ sealife. The staff were very friendly and informative. The kids (who already knew a lot) had a great time. The ray was a highlight. Yes it is small and ageing but a great attraction for a small town (and aquariums are expensive to run). We'd come again.

Looking a bit run down and not much in it compared to most other aquariums. A lot of fish in small pools and the two penguins there can't have a very nice life. The Penguins at the Antarctic centre in Christchurch have a much better life I'd say. My wife and I said this attraction should have been about $10 to $15 - not the over $20 charged. Disappointing and overpriced.

HiThank you or your review. I am sorry that we did not give you a better experience. To be honest the day you visited was our busiest day of the year, 31 December 2014. We were overwhelmed by the unexpected number of visitors. We should have been clearer with our instructions at admissions but there was such an overwhelming flood of visitors.NB. If you are visiting again please identify yourself and we would be pleased to give you a Close Encounters Tour and a Behind the Scenes tour with our compliments.People trying to get into the cinema for free was an issue that day but we now have different arrangements in place. With more than 40,000 visitors a year and as Marlborough's most visited paid for visitor attraction we know from the personal feedbacks and from the many positive comments in our visitors book that the conservation and education work we are doing is appreciated by our visitors and we deliver great value for money. However we failed with you on this occasion. We look forward to hosting you again.John ReuhmanDirector

I refer to your recent review. We are obviously shocked by your comments. It is rare for us to receive such feedback. It would have assisted us if you could have been more specific with your points of criticism.NB. We would be pleased to refund you your admission or give you a complimentary visit and upgrade it to include a Behind the Scenes Tour and a Close Encounter Tour. We are the most visited paid attraction in Marlborough and more than 40,000 people visit us every year. Our reputation is hard earned and most visitors are delighted with their EcoWorld experience and are particularly appreciative of our animal conservation work, education and the calibre of the staff and their presentations. We look forward to hosting should you wish to take up our offer when you next visit from Nelson.
