Great to stroll and feel transported to another land, green and lush. Good areas to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. Lovely lake and bridge as a main feature. Lush vegetation, its the botanic gardens of new Plymouth. Well worth a visit

We first visited Pukekura Park in January 2015 to see the Christmas lights which were truely magnificent making the whole place very atmospheric. The lights were taken down about the 26th of the month so if you are in New Plymouth next January, do put this park on your list of places to visit. Perfect for children there were fairy tale characters, musical themes, the lake was illuminated with large orbs which constantly changed colour and with the swans gliding through them, it was a wonderful. Our second visit has just taken place when we went to WOMAD for three days which was held in Brooklands Park at the back of Pukekura Park. These were four stages, the main one being the Brooklands Bowl which is an amphitheatre, perfect for music and ballet. There does not have to be any entertainment to visit Pukekura Park, it is so beautiful,. I am so glad I had the opportunity to enjoy it and hope my review will encourage you to go.

Truly a wonderful place hard to believe such a place could exist in the heart of the city. We were lucky we saw the arrangements of WOMAD being made

It is hard to believe when you are relaxing in the peace and quiet of this beautiful park that you are within walking distance of the hustle and bustle of normal city life. Pathways meander through native ferns, shrubs and trees and around lakes, one with an attractive fountain. Position yourself at the end of the lake by the tea rooms and you will see a picture postcard view of Mount Taranaki in the distance behind a Japanese style bridge crossing the lake. Such photo opportunities abound here. If you visit in January at dusk you'll be treated to the TSB lights where coloured lights are installed throughout the park. Highly recommended.

I couchsurfed in New Plymouth and my host showed me around this park. What a gem. There is a lot going on with fountains, Japanese style bridges, cricket ground and even building sets for Womad festival that was soon to happen. On a sunny like we had a really beautiful place to spend a few hours.

Beautiful Pukekura Park is close to the centre of New Plymouth. A large lake set in luxuriant NZ bush, with a couple of picturesque red coloured bridges. We walk right around the extended lake. I can still find myself choked up emotionally at the beauty here. It makes me wonder if one would just accept it as 'normal' after a time. We have a nice morning tea at the Park tea shop, where one of us enjoys a special teapot set. There are toilet facilities, but it appears that there is only a small car park.

A fantastic place to visit. Spent the whole day there and thoroughly enjoyed it. The signage could be better, but we found our way around okay. Definitely worth the visit.

We had a few hours to spare on our first trip to New Plymouth and decided to visit the park. Was a really enjoyable walk and it's very well maintained. Lots to see. The fernery and display houses really really impressive. The only downside for us was probably the signage which at times was confusing and didn't seem all that accurate.Didn't get to the zoo which we heard might have been closed due to a concert in the park.

Very beautiful with lots of huge shady trees and a lovely lake. There's a nice little café too. Very conveniently situated for the city centre.

Our group of Probus members visited the Pukekura in February .I organised a Mobility Scooter for one of the men (Contact the Park Cafe) (No charge but must be booked), and hired the Park Buggy for a couple of hours (Gold coin donation per person). The Cafe was well frequented for Morning tea, with the food and drink receiving high praise. The Park was up to its usual standard with everyone enjoying the trees and flowers. The talk by Veronica was enjoyed by all. I must give a bouquet to the staff at the Cafe -I lost my watch -and didnt expect to see it again. - Left my name and phone number and soon after getting back to the Motel received a call to say that it had been handed in. One of the staff dropped it in later that afternoon. VERY much appreciated.

Pukekura Park is awesome, visiting this park is a must when staying in New Plymouth. It is absolutely amazing with heaps of walks, along beautiful lakes, huge well established trees, plenty of birdlife, and beautiful flowers. It would have to be one of the prettiest parks in New Zealand, and it's amazing thats it's situated almost in the middle of the city, but you would never know, as it's so peaceful.
