I tend to get bored in museums but the amount of variety offered at the Auckland Museum means you will never be bored, there's so much to see and it's all really interesting. I highly recommend you do the cultural performance, so worth the money and so much fun! The performers are amazing, so talented, and they're really funny too. I also ate at the Museum Cafe, which was really yummy!

I visited the museum with a friend and because she was local there was no entrance fee. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. The building itself is gorgeous, interesting and grand, a lovely place to wander about for a day to learn about local history, geology, culture and nature. There is a cultural Maori performance available here as well. The World of Wearable art was on display here and it was beyond wonderful. Its great that they provide a venue for such incredible exhibits.

Special exhibit of wearable clothing was just outstanding. Building is a bit strange in terms of layout and some exhibits are hard to understand with information at your feet level.

It's worth a trip to this museum just to see the ancient intricately carved 83-foot Maori canoe as well as the carved Maori meeting house, carved items, woven flax dresses and baskets and other exhibits. And the special exhibit, WOW-Weaarable Art was an example of great artistic creativity and humor--a lot of fun.

Love wandering the museum - I could spend hours - I like the souvenir shop the price of tourist memorabilia is very reasonable considering the quality of the goods - I think they over charge to see exhibitions or events

Located in Parnell and free to Kiwi residents. My afternoon entry was $45 NZ dollars and entitled me to a Maori cultural show, the last performance I believe was 2 pm and all access to the many textile, nautical, and art exhibits throughout the 3 level museum. Impressive Lego architectural creations reside in the lobby now. I should have come earlier, as 5pm ( closing time ) came way to quickly. Make it a first stop then walk leisurely 2 blocks to find a variety of local eateries. Enjoyed the Volcano exhibit immensely followed by a simulated earthquake/volcanic blast emanating from Rangitoto Island. It last blasted 600 years ago creating the above water Island you see today, scary thought.

Great guided tour. Wonderful special Exhibit on Wearable Art. We went early to avoid school groups. Small store, expected more options at the store.
