Maybe it wasn't really working the day we went, cos it was pretty average. Nearby are some nice waterfalls, so if you do a tour from Papeete along the north coast, you see various monuments to captain cook and other explorers, and the tomb of the king. Tour Ames about 3 hours, just hire a taxi in the Main Street, near the roundabout.

It may have been the water conditions at the time but the blow hole was hardly making any spray. You can see everything in less than 10 minutes. There are a few vendors by the parking lot selling souvenirs and food. We bought a bag of coconut cookies that were very good. When travelling clockwise around the island you cannot legally turn directly into the parking lot. You need to drive past the lot and then turn around.

I took my mom who was visiting to the hole. It's the one place that she remembers and asks to bring her back to. The area at the time was going through a facelift. A new tunnel was dug and opened up a few years ago. A local lady not far from the hole sells mape( steamed chestnuts) and fresh coconut water straight from the coco. Picnic tables are available and the area is clean. The view of the ocean is breathtaking. Sometimes you can see the flying fish.

My wife and I went here late July visiting from the U.S. It is right near the 3 Cascades entrance off the main road/highway. Since we speak English, my wife just happened to see the brown sign for it in French. We pulled up into the parking and we noticed there used to be a road a long time ago that would bend around this rock. They closed it and now it is just a tourist attracting with a bridge that goes to the blowhole. A few locals were blasting their music loudly and the girls were laughing hard. Nothing to be afraid us as it was getting dark. We took a few pics and near the beach there happened to be a bathroom. This is a great place to go before the hike to 3 waterfalls. The location is right near the entrance/exit to one side of the tunnel. This is where you may see a sign to the blowhole. We checked out the rocky beach right near there and took a few pics, then hopped back in the car. In comparison to the blowhole we saw in Hawaii, it's pretty cool. You might see some sea creatures nearby. It will literally take you 5 minutes to see. This is probably why people give it 3 stars or less because it's not like it's incredibly memorable.

This small stop just before (or after) a tunnel offers a strange blowhole in the rocks and some very rough see to look at. Worth a stop.

Pleasantly surprised by whatseems to be a side attraction. The waves have finally forced their way through Man's feeble attempt to create a oceanside drive. Worth the brief stop.

The signs explained how the trou had been formed and what to look for: fish on the rocks, trees in the area, etc. It was easy to find and had sufficient parking.

Drove out to blowhole----very easy to get to in rental car. Better than a lot of the other blowholes I have seen in both Hawaii and Mexico. Not crowded at all and easy to get very close to. Great drive along the coast. 100 yards farther up the coast is turnoff to 3 waterfalls---they were great. 5 minute walk to first one and 20 minutes to other 2----do it. well worth the walk.

It was just a great experience and quite surprising to have the wind blow with such strength over your body!!! It is a fun thing to just stand by that hole and take a have somebody else take a photo when the wind comes all at once and "blows you away"!!!! LOL

this is an interesting fluck of nature, the hole in the rock and the waves of the sea to make such a scenery and such a jet. if one misses this spot, one misses something interesting.

had heard about the blowhole so we taxied it here from papeete. our cab driver was nice enough to stick around while we looked around as it would have been very difficult to get back. the blowhole was fun for awhile, we were laughing, the locals were laughing at us and the black sand beach was very nice. i'd suggest not taking a cab here (kind of expensive) and take a tour instead but definitely come on by and check it out

the power of the ocean always fascinates me ! it's best to visit when the tide is high, then you'll see the best of it !

we went on an average day for waves and it was fun. I saw it before when it was big and it was really cool! on a flat water day, don't even bother. we did that on the same trip as going to see the water falls next door.

We went on a stormy day, so the blowhole was in full action. It's neat to see, but not as impressive as I thought it would be.

it was a highlight of a day trip around the island the spot is amazing with the black sand and the surrounding view we met few of the locals surfing there and they have a lot of fun. we enjoyed the spot very much especially our teenagers.
