While on a private tour with Scott (Premiuim Wine Tours) we stopped at Woodstock Wines. We had a wonderful tasting. Jimi Charleston the Cellar door manager was great. He poured us delicious reds, had wonderful history of the vineyards and wines and to top it all off they are also a kangaroo rescue. When the kangaroos are hit by cars, if the driver check the pouch and finds a joey (baby kanga) they bring it to Woodstock. We were taken out to the kangaroo rescue where we fed the kangaroos who eagerly greeted us. I so enjoyed my time with Jimi the manager, and Dusty who loved a good neck rub. :)

If you're looking for an affordable, pleasant afternoon of wine tasting, look no further. The staff was convivial and ready to share the story of the cellar door. The moscato, Little Miss Collett, was particularly light and refreshing.Everyone welcomed my young nephew, and he enjoyed seeing the kangaroo enclosure.Woodstock can definitely depend on me for repeat patronage.

The setup caters for all tourists. Although the tasting area is small the restaurant is a great area for dining, weddings and functions. The highlight is the outdoor area with plenty of seating, shade and entertaining area as well as the huge wood oven for cooking. There is also a sanctuary for animals which is great for all ages

We've spent eight days both in Barossa and McLaren Vale. And we did lots of tastings. In this review you will read my opinion about the wines. But since wine is very much about personal taste, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will share my opinion. You might hate the wine I liked and vice versa. So much about that, here we go:Our first stop on that day was Woodstock Wines, a winery unknown to us at that time. It's a bit hidden away in a forest area. The setting and landscape here is a bit different from some other vineyards. But different in this case doesn't mean bad...no, it is a lovely location! We were the only ones on that rainy, cold morning. Peter Collett - the owner's son - was there doing the tasting for us. A very friendly guy. After the tasting he even brought us to their Kangaroos, let us go in and pet them. That was extremely nice of him.But to the wine: We started easy with a Semillon. Which was fresh and fruity, but not that impressive. But then the reds: We tasted their Woodstock Cab and the Woodstock Shiraz. Both dark and heavy....exactly to our likings. The Cab here was heavier than some other Cab in this Region....which is a good thing. Both very good reds and surely your money well spent. But then there was the "Pilot's View" Shiraz. And that one was really impressive. Really dark and heavy...even a bit smokey in flavour. A brillant Shiraz! Had to get a bottle of that one to drink later. Among the best Shiraz in McLaren for sure.We had a great time here and enjoyed the wine and the chat with Peter. A Winery that shouldn't be missed!Wanna know more about me and my trips?
