I read about the platypus tours and approached the tourist info centre to see if I could book in. The lady there said she thought I might be able to see some now, she phoned a landcare gentleman and I did a short walk to the creeks edge and met him. He took me for a walk through where they had planted lots of natives and entertained me with stories of the history of the area whilst we kept an eye out for the elusive platypus.Just when I had lost all hope a platypus was spotted. What a wonderful sight. The first time I had ever seen one in the wild. I continued to watch it for the next 30mins or so as it swam up and down stream diving and searching for food.A wonderful experience I'll never forget.

Get a tour from one of the Landcare guys and get the full story and every chance of seeing many of the platypus family. Guides with phone numbers (some of which may be out of date) can be obtained at the caravan park). Reserve is also a great location for a stroll or a swim.

We went out to see if we could find some platypus!! The elusive little devils!! We walked around the ponds on a track that they are upgrading at the moment, but lovely place to go for a picnic or walk. About 4 km from Latrobe and I walked out through lovely farming land, cows being milked etc. I would suggest if you wish to see a Platypus, do what we are going to do next and pay $10.00 and go on a tour. See the Information Centre for details about the tours. They guarantee you will see a platypus or your money back.

The river bubbles and swirls. You can often see platypus for a second or two. Beautiful example of Aussie bush.

Platypuses to be seen here! Park is being maintained by volunteers, looks lovely, perfect for a BBQ or a picnic

Warrawee has some great walks, a pleasant river swimming hole and an excellent platypus viewing area. If you go later in the afternoon or early in the morning, you are almost guaranteed a platypus sighting - but remember to take the Aerogard!

What a wonderful experience. Warrawee Reserve is beautiful and seeing platypus in the wild is a dream come true. Our guide, from Latrobe Landcare Group, booked through Visitor Information Centre, was very knowledgeable, patient and interesting. A highly recommended wildlife activity.

Have you ever wondered about these unique Australian mammals. While the reserve is wonderful just to walk around and enjoy, going on a platypus tour with the Latrobe Landcare group provides an insight into the platypus' intricate world that will amaze. Highly recommended. Book through the Latrobe Visitor Information Centre where you are also made to feel very welcome.

Just outside the lovely town of Latrobe in northern Tasmania is a picnic, come forest park called Warrawee Forest Park. It is one of the best places I have ever come across to see platypus in the wild. I have taken many family and friends there, and so far we've had 100 percent success rate in spotting platypus. The park is a beautiful place for a family picnic, there are toilets, a few fire pits and some table and chairs, you would be better off bringing your own table and chairs. The park borders the lovely Mersey River for the full length of the park. At the northern end is large pool, this is where we see the platypus. If you get to the large pool just as the park is opening at sunrise and being there before sunset, don't get locked in, there's a very very good chance you'll see the platypus, but very quiet and still. It really is worth a visit, others have said they've seen them during the middle of the day. A lot of people take their swimmers, the waters a bit cold for me. Go have a look, take a picnic, take your swimmers and see if you can spot a platypus.P.s. we've also seen platypus in the river.

Le "Warawee Forest Reserve" n'a rien d'exceptionnel en lui-même !L'expérience pourrait être meilleure si on a la chance d'apercevoir des platypus. Mais apparemment, aux dires des riverains, c'est de plus en rare d'en voir...
