Brought alive by our amazing guide 91 year old Pat Hillary (hope I've spelled that correctly) who actively encourages visitors to get in there and participate with the artifacts. Something unheard of in English museums. My favourite was the side saddle but the milking machine was also fun and I loved the clothes. Imperative history lesson about how the timber trade built Bowraville and we even found the land deeds for my cousin's house More than worth the admission fee.

This is an excellent country museum, tucked away in a tiny town. If you want an eye-opening slice of pioneer life, this is the place to come. Makes a good wet weather trip if you're staying in Nambucca.

This museum used to be a store which was burnt down in 1916. Now it is a museum on a par with the Gulgong Museum, although not so big. It covers all aspects of country life in days gone by. There is an old slab cottage, a church and the facade of a boarding house that was used in the film "Umbrella Woman" starring Rachel Ward & Bryan Brown in it. There is a lot of farm machinery in it, some of which can be operated by a push of a button, old carriages and a gem collection. The church in the museum has been used for wedding ceremonies. There is also an forge, which is operated from time to time and a ladies side saddle can be tried out. Many coaches of people visit the museum, which is only a $1.00 entrance fee. Well worth a visit in this "Verandah Post Town" then have coffee or lunch in the many cafes available - The Phoenix, The Mad Hatters Tea garden, the Bowra Theatre Cafe and The Chocolatier Cafe or the beautiful Bowra Hotel circa 1912.

The museum entry fee was only a couple of dollars and well worth it to see the vast display. Just when I thought I'd seen it all, another room appeared, then another. It was like walking through a labarynth of musty relics from the past. The nursery at the top of the winding stairs gave my sister the chills and the dummy in the hospital bed made me scream, but the visit was very enjoyable.

This is a small, and weird museum, so if you're into collecting experiences the way they've collected their stuff - nostalgic, adventurous and eclectic - then this is for you. Bowraville itself is such an unusual place, so I think this influences how you see the museum. Worth a visit.
