Pilliga Pottery is just a short 20 minute drive from Coonabarabran on the Newell Highway heading north to Narrabri, you head down a well graded dirt road for 10 klms and your there. There are numerous buildings that use different constructions methods and designs, these are fasinating by themselves, there is a great resturant, and with an indoor and out door dining area's, where you can get a variety of food including wood fired pizza's that are yum. There is a pottery shop and work shop where you and the kids are invited to join in or just watch the professionals create their wears. There are extensive grounds and walking tracks to explore with many animals to see.If you want to stay no problem, there are choices from stand alone to share accommodation, and even camping options, this is one of our favorite places to come just for a coffee or a celebration.

From the beautiful pieces of pottery on display and for sale, to the delicious lunch, service with a smile, amazing pottery tree, to the very unique finds in the garden and the ever so different house. There's lots to love at the Pilliga Pottery including all the birds, native wildlife and nature at it's best. It's a short 10km drive on a dirt road from the main highway and it sure is worth a visit. There's plenty of camping available as well as accommodation. Go there today, it really is a "Hidden Gem."

We stayed here for a few nights on a family road trip. Stayed in the old school house, so very beautiful. Our son was able to play & make things out of the pottery. We ate in both the restaurant & on one night had dinner brought to our house, everything was just wonderful. Our son was made to feel so welcome, able to help with the farm animals. We purchased some beautiful pieces & what we ordered arrived a few months later & it takes pride of place in our kitchen. This place is a perfect place to get away with the family. Just loved it, everyone was so friendly. It's here I saw my first shooting star!!!

My daughter and I stayed here when travelling from Queensland to Adelaide. We had a dog, a budgie and a large horse in a float. We were all made very welcome. They could not do enough to help us. The road in is dirt but in good condition, and the accomodation was budget but great. We shared bathroom and seperate toilet, along with a balcony that looked out over the paddocks and yards where our horse was housed. The food in the cafe was beautiful and reasonably priced. Also wine etc was available. Would definately recommend to anyone travelling with children or animals. Phone contact and wi-fi almost impossible, but staff very willing to help.

A lovely drive through bushland (on a very good dirt road) leads you to a collection of great buildings that both blend in yet stand out! Very friendly people will welcome you to look anywhere you like, the pottery is outstanding and the grounds beautiful. Food is great - I would really recommend a visit if you are in the vicinity. We will visit again and this time stay in the accomodation which is varied to suit all tastes and budgets.

It is in the middle of no where very peaceful. The animal feeding, horse riding, free clay play and a modern clean pool was the highlight for our kids.It is a farm stay with an artistic stay higly recommend for people who love clay. The workshops were very affordable and the hosts are very helpful. We found the beds to be a little uncorfortable and the food options a little limited,as long as you also take your own food its a magical stay

Amazing pottery in beautiful bush setting. Great cafe also with food made fresh on site with ingredients grown on site. They have woofers helping out.

This is an amazing place to stay: very beautiful and very clean. After driving for 10 or 11 hours it was bliss to arrive at! We stayed there on two separate occasions and both rooms and the bathroom were fitted with custom-made timber furniture with the natural curves of the timber left intact: very ornate. The bathroom was fitted with a very nice eye for detail too. We had budget rooms which meant sharing a verandah and bathroom with other guests, but everything was spacious and well-maintained so there was plenty of room for everyone and it was very comfortable. We were also travelling with a cat; our experiences at other places showed us that pet-friendly accommodation is often poorly cleaned, but this was not the case here. In fact, unbelievably, the price was the same as staying in a very ordinary cabin in a caravan park, but Pilliga Pottery a.k.a. Barkala Farmstay was a world apart. The pottery was incredible too and the staff very pleasant. I only wish our schedule had allowed us to spend a few more days there. This place is truly a welcome surprise tucked quietly away and I thoroughly recommend it for a relaxed and hassle-free stay.

We stayed in the Poets Cottage for four nights and used it as a base to explore the area. Lovely place to come back to at the end of a day exploring. Kitchen and BBQ meant we could cater for ourselves, and sit out on the verandah and watch the world go by.

There are various accommodation options at "Barkala" from the campsite to self-contained accommodation for groups. There is a wonderful cafe, pottery selling unique works of art and walks through the Australian bush. This is an excellent and relaxing way to spend a few days away from phones, TV and internet access.
