We have a lovely pond at home, and were rather concerned to see the frightful algal growth in the fishponds and streams. Clearly the water needs attention. The gardens are pretty but much smaller than I expected.

A nice little Japanese garden located approximately 9km, south of Wellington.Look for the turnoff located on the right hand side off of the Mitchell Highway and on to Caves road.We were there a little early as some of the trees were only starting to flower and bloom, never the less, it is still relaxing walking through, with the water running, watching the ducks and the Koi carp in the pond.

The gardens are tranquil and very pretty. There is still a lot of work to be done which is clear from the work equipment in full view at various points throughout the gardens. It is disappointing to be greeted by a loud radio heralding ones entrance to a serene garden. The folk may have been volunteers but sitting at the front entrance with a loud radio is inappropriate and detracted from the setting. I do hope council give consideration to appropriate ambience on entry to this lovely garden. The garden areas which have sheds and bundling equipment also need to be hidden. It looks untidy and thoughtless. The toilets were also in need of cleaning. This could be a superb attraction. Sadly much work is still required and I would look forward to another visit in a couple of years to see the gardens completion.

Great place to have a wedding or just wander quietly. Large pond that is unfences - so need to take care of young children. When we visited there were around 20 ducklings following their parents around - the kids just loved it. Can grab something to eat from across the car park at the caves kiosk - also facilities and kids play area there.
