Well this trip held little of the promise that was made!!! Very boring and ordinary dive site and not worth the scuba dive but good for snorkelling. Don't hold out any hopes for lunch - this was a pig fest and like most things about the trip disorganised with little effort. Having said that - if you are female, blonde and leggy you will probably get more that you paid for. The boat - yeah well maintenance looks pretty minimal and seating is minimal. The gear - yeah well this was cheap, nasty and worn so best you take your own. Recommendation - check out the other operators also and don't be seduced into thinking you are going to experience something out of the ordinary by this operator. Unfortunately this operator is the only one offering a diver certification course.

We went to 1770 to do a PADI Open Dive course before an overseas dive trip. We researched different places and spoke to a few groups that run the course and chose Dive 1770. We spent the first day doing all the theory, we were in a little A frame house with about 5 other people. Dive 1770 organised our dive medicals for us down the road in Agnes Water. The only problem with doing this was that we missed about 2 hours of the theory that we had to make up ourselves that night (it was lucky we had the DVD). I would recommend that you organise the medical back home first. We also found out that price on the website of $250 had now increased to $275. They also advised that 2 of the 4 dives would be out on the reef, however when we arrived we were told that it would cost another $125 to do. Then they told us that PADI have also decided that everyone has to have a book now and that was $50. So what was originally quoted to be $250, was now $450. We questioned all of the above and they pretty good, they said we could pay the $250 and they would give us an old book for $10, I think they also reduced the reef dive to $90 or we could do 4 estuary dives instead. The second day was in the pool. My husband did well with this and was quite happy. I, on the other hand, was a bit anxious and this was not helped by the first regulator not working properly, followed later by the other breaking in my mouth. Seemingly this is a simple problem and the rubber deteriorates often - would hate to have been at the bottom of the ocean when that happened! No one else had any major problems. I understand that the tide waits for no man, so when they told us we weren't diving that night or the following day, and would give us a call that night to let us know what was happening next , I understood. We didn't hear from them that night and left messages, they ended up leaving us a message the following night (after wasting a day waiting to find out what was going on) to tell us to meet them at the marina in the morning so we could head out to the reef - we didn't want to go to the reef. i am sure they have taken thousand of people out diving, but overall I just didn't have the confidence to go out into Open Water after completing the first 2 days - however I am pretty anxious, so it didn't need to take much. The staff were nice and only charged us for the 2 days, they were pretty easy going, but I think to the point of being unorganised.
