We were staying in Yeppoon as a stop over between Hervey Bay and Airlie Beach. We saw a brochure for Nob Creek Pottery in Byfield and decided to have a look. Nob Creek is so far off of the beaten path that it is hard to fathom how they can stay in business until you see the amazing collection of pottery, paintings and other artwork that they have displayed in their lovely tropical setting. We were especially taken by their unique Byfield fern pattern and would have loved to have taken a large piece home with us (they do ship), but decided to settle for something smaller that we could carry aboard the plane. The piece is truly unique and always gets comments about how beautiful it is.

This is a delightful spot to visit if you are staying in Yeppoon or Rockie. Its a sprawling gallery in an exotic tropical garden - or maybe a exotic gallery in a sprawling garden. Either way, its packed full of all sorts of pottery, paintings and other artworks. It has a real feel of SE Asia. There is something here for everyone and for any budget, though it did seem to be a pity that most of the pottery/artworks are made overseas. They do have a $5 door charge if you don't buy anything which I thought a bit rich, but chances are you are going to find a little something that takes your fancy, anyway. We certainly did.

Visited this beautiful, but surprisingly not little gallery in the wilderness. A good variety of pottery, glass, stoneware, jewellery and paintings all at a variety of prices to suit everyones budget. Sue was exceptionally helpful. Everything I purchased was very securely wrapped for its trip home. To experience the grounds, wear good footwear if you have weak ankles as the pathways are very uneven. Enjoy a pleasant stroll through the Byfield Fernwalk in the pottery grounds. This gallery was a highlight of my visit to the Capricorn Coast.

Although a bit of a drive in the country, it's well worth the visit if your into pottery and paintings. The whole area has a bush feeling about it. The variety of pottery with its vibrant colours will please you.

The Nob Creek pottery is reason alone to head out to Byfield. Although I'm not the arty type, I know what I like and I like the stuff here. There is a huge range of work on display and potter is happy to let you watch him work. The dragon shaped kiln out the back is a sight to see especially when it is being fired. While there check out the extensive orchard of rare and tropical fruit.

The first time i went i was pleasantly surprised. If you are travelling it a crafty artisan shop but just to see some of the artsy ideas. Really was interesting. I have taken friend when they visit and to see the expressions on their faces is a delight. A short driv on to the Byfield shop to try some local produce cooked into a vegetable lasagne and pineapple and mint juice. True Bliss

As a potter and printmaker myself, I'm always interested in seeing other artists works. We were not disappointed and found the work on display plentiful, engaging and a delight to meander our way through. Sue was helpful and pleasant and Steve made our day be showing us how he does his unique "fern carvings". Knowing how much work and effort goes into handmade pieces, I appreciate that the prices are higher than the $2 cup available at Coles, and represent a significant investment into the artists skill and dedication. When you consider that each piece may be handled up to 15-20 times, depending on the work done to it, and that this handling time could end up equating to an hours worth of time, then $25 for a beautiful, handmade and unique cup is a fair price to pay. This is a place well worth a visit, but keep an eye on your children as breakages could be costly on your wallet. I loved the bathroom ware section, and was impressed with the bathroom basin bowls. To get a large, hand thrown piece, as good as these, shows exceptional skill and talent. It's not easy to produce consistent work on a large scale. We also really appreciated the option of having our items shipped home. We purchased a significant amount, and the freight was very reasonable and gave us peace of mind. Steve was a charming guy to talk to, and very forthcoming with his knowledge. I would highly recommend coming here on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday morning and then heading over to the Ferns Hideaway for their amazing lunches. Do not be mislead by their sign saying "light lunches" as this is a world class menu and you won't be disappointed. We expected lame sandwiches and ordinary Devonshire teas, but were greeted with a live band as soon as we entered and the menu was amazing. Very impressed!

After staying in Yeppoon for a couple of weeks we wanted a day away from the beach so decided to check out Byfield and Nobb Creek pottery. We were pleasantly surprised, as we weren't expecting such a lovely little gallery in such a small community. The galleries are located in a couple of acres of bush land and you can wander around and view the different kilns that the pottery is created in. Like all good pottery there are plenty of unique pieces here and if you are willing to spend around $100 you can get some lovely glazed platters. We were really quite interested in how they select their glazes and how they go about making their artworks so we asked Sue, one of the main artists about a piece of her work we really loved. Her reply "I was an art teacher but couldn't do that and this full time. I've been doing pottery for over 20 years". O....k... We won't ask any more questions then! So much for learning about how she selected the glazes or which of the four massive kilns she fired it in and why or what inspired the particular motif. She was clearly uninterested in sharing which was really disappointing. They had a lovely shop assistant who was really helpful, telling you where on the property you could go to see the orchard, the painting gallery and little tidbits she had learnt about the pottery which salvaged the experience. She even called around to see who was open for lunch as it was just after Xmas. Really strange to have someone so friendly and helpful and someone so uninterested in the same place. Well worth a look, but be careful who you ask questions of!

Well if you are happy to give a donation of 5.00 at the door for not purchasing any items and pay 420.00 for a fruit bowl well this place is for you!! Nice stuff five times the price the items should be!! Friendly service shame it was way too dear to buy anything i was thinking of.

We were staying in Yeppoon and the man at the Ice Cream Shop told us to go and visit the Nob Creek Pottery. Halfway there from Yeppoon a sign reads "11Km to go, we promise it will be worth while"They told the truth, it was worth the pleasant drive. The art for sale by Steve Bishopric and Sue McBurnie was very interesting and very entertaining. An eclectic collection of pottery, ceramics, paintings, sculpture and work working is available to view and even purchase.Steve and Sue were very welcoming, they have art for sale, nicknacks to buy and some very unusual custom made bathroom accessories. But the atmosphere and the bush setting were also a highlight of the day.Possibly not suited to small children as there are breakable items on display however our 10 year really enjoyed the experience.
