We did the tour on the 9th of March 2015 and it was amazing! We were only 30 pax (groups can be up to 50pax,a staff member told us).We were picked up at the hostel at 7:45am and left land on 8:30am. The way to the island wasn't easy, very bumpy and against the waves - I get seasick easily so I just kept focused on the horizon and it worked for me!We arrived the pontoon at 10am and had some tea/coffee/hot choco and cakes - these were available the whole day. Then we went to the island for a guided walk -Marcus is a really knowledgable guide and funny too. He showed us where turtles nest and we saw turtles,a shark and a manta ray! The island is really beautiful, corals everywhere! After the walk, as we weren't divided in groups because we were only 30, we went all together to the glass bottom boats to watch the reef while staying dry! That was also amazing and a good appetizer for the snorkeling! We saw different locations and then went for lunch at 12:30pm. We had a quick lunch - buffet of cold salads, cold meat and fruit - and off we went to snorkel! That was the best part,we stayed from 13-15:30pm and I - not a good swimmer in high sea- wanted more!If you don't feel safe in water just take a vest, which I did and was more than confortable! The reef is wonderful,so much life and different colours! We all headed land with a smile on our faces,I slept the whole way back (90min) as I was so tired!...Perfect reef tour!

We had a great day with Lady Musgrave Cruises. We did the outer wall dive and the lagoon dive. It had been couple of years since our last dive and James really put us at ease with everything. It was heaps of fun and good to have a base on a pontoon. We were able to snorkel in between our two dives and saw amazing fish. Loved the afternoon tea of scones with jam and cream, and after a couple of dives they went down very well! Word of warning though, the trip out to the island is rough! If you are at all prone to seasickness make sure you take tablets…there were people being sick all around us. The trip back was less rough than the way out, but by no means calm.

This seems to be the "must do" excursion in the Agnes Water/1770 area and boys were they right! What a magnificent experience...there reef was stunning and the island, just wonderful and unspoiled. This trip is not for the weak of stomach. The seas were fairly rough, both ways and more than half the people were sea sick. How I held it together, no idea! The crew was wonderful at caring for those that were sick! Once we arrived at the platform, they all sprung into action as a well tuned team to man the various activities and give out excellent information and they all seemed very friendly and truly enjoying their jobs! Hats off to the crew!Despite the arduous journey, I would do it again!

Living in QLD for a couple years and we've visited the reef from Port Douglas, Airlie Beach, Hamilton Island and now 1770. By far the best coral and fish/turtles have been here at Lady Musgrave.Unfortunately they have the smallest/oldest boat we've been on and in combination with more unprotected waters meant a rough ride even on the best day, I never get sea sick and I almost lost it on the way out. The pontoon is fine, but very small. The coral island was a fun bonus and as I said before the colours of the coral and the amount and variety of fish killed the other locations.Overall very happy, just make sure you watch the swell and make sure you take a pill if your at all worried about getting sick.Jay

My weekend has been ruined - two boats broke down and my shuttle bus from Bargara has been turned around in half way to 1770. I drove 385 km both ways, paid $365 for accommodations and after all my trip has been cancelled! Shame and disgrace for all Australian industry on Australian Day!

Sounds like we had a similar experience to Grant W, except ours occurred yesterday (Sat 14/2/15). We booked into the Agnes Waters Caravan Park, and paid for two nights (Fri & Sat. 13 & 14/2/15). We headed out to 1770 and arrived to finalise the bookings. Whilst doing this, a crew member (captain?) announced to our kids that due to a mechanical failure the cruise was cancelled. The company had our booking details, but there are no records of missed phone calls/emails from them to advise that the mechanical failure the boat was experiencing during the week could extend to Saturday and we should continue our plan at our own 'risk'. We spent over $400 in accommodation for this day trip to happen. Disgraceful.

The seas have been high of late meaning that on some days it is not wise to travel out to the reef. That is therefore something I accept as being outside the control of the trip organisers. Due to the very limited time I had in Agnes Water / Town of 1770 (2 days) I checked regularly on the size of the swell and booked a trip for 11th February at a cost of 180 dollars being the adult (senior) price. As advised by the tour company I arrived in good time at 0745 and was advised that the tour would go ahead notwithstanding that the seas were rough at about a two metre swell. So far so good I thought. Then I overheard one member of staff say to another that the engine on the large vessel used on the trips was not starting. This did not seem to cause any concern with the crew. After a few minutes all passengers were told to board the barges taking us to the main vessel. We were then informed that we may see whales on the trip out as well as turtles. I was still thinking this all sounds good and that everything was under control. The large vessel then proceeded to the edge of the 1770 harbour. We even had the usual safety briefing. At that point the captain announced that the trip to the reef was cancelled for today as quote - the engine wont start and for safety reasons the trip is cancelled. We were told that an engineer would have to come from Gladstone to fix it and that the situation was beyond their control. Captain sounded a little sorry about this mess but hey it is not really a problem as quote - you can come back tomorrow or Friday. Well I cant return again as I have a flight to take and I imagine the schedules of tourists who were transferred in by bus today may not allow for a return visit. The return to the office took quite a while and although I was offered a refund the company said they did not have enough cash on site at present to pay me back. People who paid by card got a refund. I was told I had to go back to the 1770 office later today go collect the money I handed over yesterday which ruins the rest of my day today. In my opinion the maintenance of their vessel is something entirely within the organisers control. Their back up vessel is also out of service due to maintenance issues. This makes me think that the vessels are old and perhaps unreliable. The owner said something along the lines of - we try to keep prices low for passengers hence sometimes things do not go exactly to plan. I still do not know why the company brought the passengers on board when even I knew that the engine would not start! All in all a very poor experience and a complete lack of empathy with their unfortunate customers. Hopefully I will get my refund later today. I would rather they brought the money to me but it seems their customer service does not extend that far. Needless to say I will not use this company again.

I've been on a couple of different reef trips up the QLD coast and this is probably my favourite overall. Their pontoon is really well equipped, equipment quality is excellent, staff were really friendly, lunch was standard for these kinds of cruises but still good, and the lagoon at lady musgrave island just can't be faulted. It's a really big area they have set aside for snorkelling so doesn't feel as crowded as some trips I've been on, and the lagoon means no annoying currents to fight against and the water visibility is excellent. Been on this one twice now over the years and would definately go again if I found myself in the area

Coming off the back of a terrible day on the nearby scooteroos tour, we needed a lift and boy did we get it!!We weren't sure whether to book or not, we are so glad we did! They arranged a pick up for us from our hostel, a very nice chap arrived and bused us to the dock. He didn't just drop us off he gave us all the info we needed. The professionalism continued at check in. Swift informative, polite and friendly. The staff all day were great, couldn't do enough for you, we were made to feel extremely welcome! The cruise itself takes around an hour and a half. We took some travel pills before we boarded as a precaution. There were a couple of ups and downs but nothing to be fearful of. Even if you don't travel well, trust me, Lady Musgrave is worth the effort! The day itself is split. In the morning we boarded a glass bottom boat and headed for the island. There we received an informative, informal tour of the island. Some amazing sights and some of the best photos of our entire trip!!We then went back on the boat for a reef tour, again great information given to us about the reef and all its different types of fish and coral. After this it was lunch. One word, amazing!! Salads, meats, pasta, prawns, help yourself to as much as you want.Next for us was snorkelling in the reef. Beautiful clear water, an abundance of wildlife including fish and turtles, some even swam alongside reef sharks! It was the most relaxing afternoon we've had!Coffee and tea readily available all day, plus scones for afternoon tea!! This is one cruise you certainly won't go hungry on!There are additional things to do like fishing or scuba at extra cost if you want to, people we spoke to about these also thoroughly enjoyed!!The return leg started at around 3.30 ish. Alcohol is available and is reasonably priced should you wish to indulge! We sat on top deck, which is great for wildlife spotting. Numerous Dolphins, turtles and even a rather large (probable) bull shark were seen! Don't let that worry you though, the reef at Lady Musgrave is perfectly safe to enjoy!!In short, I can't recommend this enough, it was the perfect tonic for us. If you only have 1 day in Agnes/1770, don't waste your day, go and see this beautiful island and enjoy everything she has to offer! Thanks to all involved who made this such a great trip!!! :-)

This tour is well worth it! The reef is amazing, clear water and beautiful coral & fish :)The staff were really friendly & helpful, all the snorkelling equipment was clean and in good condition. The owner was on board (he was a bit rude & very strange) but apart from that it was a great day.The island walk was fascinating & not rushed at all.Would recommend this to everyone :)

Spectacular! That's it in a word. They recommend in bold type italics that you take motion sickness pills at least an hour before going. Yet so many didn't, and Yes, the journey out proved it would have been a good idea. Once there it was a walk around the island, completely consisting of coral, with trees that suck in moisture, & bites that get stuck in sticky seed. Back on the Glass bottom boat we're down the 5 different types of coral by an extremely knowledgeable Bruce. Back to the pontoon and lunch for most. I stuck to the "no food" regimen, given that I get sea sick watching Perfect Storm at the Imax. A hearty recommendation for Travalcalm tabs and ginger biscuits. Then it was snorkel time! Wow! First with a pool noodle, then free dive time. stunning fish, turtles, coral. Could have floated there forever. Then time to go home. They eye right, it was a lot less bumpy going back, but still grateful for the tabs. My first question on board had been "where's the best spot for a serious land lubber" at the back, downstairs, out in the open. Good choice. I hastily recommend this trip, worth every cent, and if you get sea sick like I do, follow the toast only breakfast, no butter, no milk, two tabs at 6:30, only ginger beer (take your own) and ginger nuts all day. You'll be fine. Go! It's worth it!!!

It's a long trip out to the reef and many people on the cruise were sick - both ways - and the ocean was relatively calm. The snorkelling was lovely though the area you can swim around is quite restricted. The cruise company does an excellent job in ensuring all care is taken of the reef. We did seem to have a lot of time for snorkelling and eating lunch, but then it may have been because we had a full boat and all the groups take turns in the glass bottom boat and island walk. We were glad we took our books to read. The island walk seemed a bit rushed, as we were the last group. The guide just stopped commentating half way round. She mentioned we might be able to see turtles but after that didn't seem to say another word. As for the island itself, if you're not a bird lover there's not much there. There was ample lunch, morning and afternoon tea - though as I am gluten free, the selection was a bit restricted. The cruise staff were very hospitable and helpful.

We travelled with our 3 boys aged 14, 11 and 4. A little bumpy on the way out but we are tough (insert laugh). Only 90 mins out to the island before being able to snorkel and explore the island with a guided island walk. The visibility was exceptional and I would rate it higher than other places like Fiji and Vanuatu due to the coral reef being so advanced. Lunch was awesome and the staff made us feel at home. A great day.
