This is a really great little regional museum. As well as highlighting local history and the fruit industry it has an emphasis on the ingenuity of Australians. In the early days of Australia it was hard to get materials and equipment. People would recycle what they had and invent what they needed. Item of this nature are well represented in this museum.

You could easily spend a half day at this museum, but unfortunately we had to do it in an hour and a half. Wish I could bring my Dad here. A huge collection of pioneer and later interesting bits and pieces. Loved it, well done!

We had about an hour and a half here and could easily have spent longer. The area is filled with original houses and other original buildings. The museum items are very interesting and well laid out. I particularly enjoyed a house on the site which is original and authentic 50s 60s style. Extremely well done. Volunteers were very helpful Highly recommend

Our sincere compliments to the volunteers and others connected with this fantastic asset to Stanthorpe and the region. We have visited our share of museums big and small but for sheer translation of the enthusiasm of local historians and contributors to the collections, this is one to beat. The theming is really clever, the tribute to pioneering invention and energy of early settlers is palpable. We spent a couple of hours on the displays and reading various settler stories. And if you want to undertake deeper research you can arrange to do so. Don't miss it if you have even the smallest interest in how this region developed or in how mining and agricultural pioneers met the challenges of a harsh environment.

I have to compliment the volunteers of this Museum, we have travelled and seen a lot of places and Museums and this would have to be one of the best we have ever seen, not a cobweb was found anywhere. Congratulations to the volunteers

Brought back wonderful memories of my childhood visits to my birthplace and holidays with my dear grandma.

This is a very visible place as you drive into town - the Stanthrpe Museum. It is easy to se it and not bother to venture in but a look is well worth while. The Museum has archives of local people and migrant history outlining the Italian colonisation. The TIN mining history is traced out in the archives but also outside with some amazing displays of early mining. The Bushranger hiostory and Captain Moonlight is depicted also. This place is worth a morning or afternoon visit and is kid friendly too.

You need a bit of spare time to look through the exhibits in this country town museum, as it is spread through a series of buildings and covers many aspects of the area's history. The buildings themselves are part of that preserved history. As a museum nut, all museums interest me. This one includes home wares, machinery, farm equipment, a PMG/Telstra hut of telephone equipment as well as geological samples of the area from Stanthorpe's (Tin Town's) mining past and much more. I would like to see better labelling with a bit more information but that may take more time and research than the volunteers who run the museum have to give, so no criticism of their sterling efforts.

My husband loves anything to do with history and loved this place. Great if you are interested in all facets of history of townships.

Families will enjoy a visit to this museum with several houses and sheds containing exhibits including farm machinery, fruit processing history, telephones and all sorts of other curios plus two houses all set up with period furniture.

An eclectic mix of artefacts which focus on local history. Given that this is entirely staffed and run by a small group of volunteers this is well worth a couple of hours while you are in Stanthorpe.

Not just a typical museum. Had many interesting displays and many things we had never seen. We loved the old houses set up to showcase a particular era and the tribute to the Italian settlers of the area. The old schoolroom was fascinating. It all was.

Recently visited the museum...full of fascinating history from the area, staffed by friendly knowledgable people. The houses on site are delightful examples of dwellings from different eras. Catch the piece of parchment under glass from the 1500's and the perfectly preserved wedding cake from 1929. You can easily spend a few hours looking for treasures here. Minimal entry fee.... Well worth a visit!

We have just returned from another visit to Stanthorpe in the South East of Queensland, Friday the 15th we visited the local museum where we were greeted by a very friendly elderly lady. We paid the entry fee of $5 per adult (very cheap for the amount of information they give you and items they have on display. It is all very organised and very well displayed they accompanying information is great and we have once more learned a lot during our visit. Our two older teens (18 & 19 years) enjoyed it very much as well (their words) our daughter started talking to one of the volunteers (a 90 year young woman), she explained so much of the local history which was absolutely great. We walked through all the buildings and each and everyone of them had a story to tell so interesting. When in Stanthorpe or close by set a few hours aside and visit this museum (with all their very friendly volunteers) it is well worth it and the entry fee won't break the bank; $5/adult $2.50/child and $15/family parents + 4 school children and don't forget your ticket is valid for 5 days so if you want to come back another day it won't cost you anything.
