If you want to get out of the bustling town, this spot is only a short drive. One tree hill is a great location to take your KFC bucket and have dinner while you watch the sunset. For the fitter among us, it is a great hill to run up and then to enjoy the view of the Grampians when you reach the top.

just a few minutes drive get you high above town with good views to to the north and west - in the morning the sun is shining on the front face of the Grampians which look impressive as they rise above the flat tableland of the middle distance.

I recently took an urban friend of 20 years up here and she gasped with amazement chiding me for not having brought her before... beautiful views and especially picturesque at sunrise and sunset... even on a cold evening you could bring some take away and watch the sun going down over the grampians... 10 minutes away is the legendary ruins of the priests hut that only the localest of locals know about. You can learn about it in the Ararat Museum that even holds a few relics! Fun to explore and discover with the kids with a picnic.

Fantistic views over town and surrounding farm land. A very tranquil spot. Full marks. A must do if you have a spare hour or two.

This scenic lookout is about 5 kms from the heart of town. It is not easy to find despite some markers and signs with a camera symbol. Ask at the visitors centre next to the railway station if you are not sure. The road climbs steeply to the top of the ridge and at the end of the track there are tables and chairs and there is a small rotunda with a bronze plaque showing directions to other landmarks and mountain peaks. It is a surprisingly beautiful view that changes with the seasons and the lighting. It is the site for the annual hill climb championships and is also used by cyclists and walkers. Good too for quiet reflection or for a walk with the dog on the small tracks at the end of the car park.
