Outlets are where they discount end of season lines & seconds. Having shopped here probably 20 times the bargains vary. You have to be realistic this is why they are outlets. You can find fantastic bargains here at different times. Things like T-shirts don't date so they are always a good pick up. My other favourite is men's hoodies or jackets because these are usually extra warm & comfy for the winter seaside winds. If you like browsing for bargains give it a try. There are also some great eateries in the precinct so have a nice day out, all year around. Most have off street parking out the front.

I went here on advice from someone that you can get some good bargains. The previous review suggests they found nothing possibly due to it being winter but I went in what should be peak season and found that was only a few shops opened here. The prices were no cheaper than other places I can go to closer to home but there was some different variety of stock so that was pleasing. I would go here again if in the area but would not travel to the area specifically for it.

I found nothing there. Not many shops were opened when we were there, probably due to the fact that it was an afternoon in winter. There is no point to go there.

Hi all, I thought I would write to help to clarify a few things over the surf factory outlets in Torquay. Firstly, Surf City Plaza is shopping precinct/area dedicated to surfing and includes the museum SurfWorld. However, the surf factory outlets are are actually dotted all around this precinct, mixed in with the normal retail stores. The popular 'fashionable surf brand' outlets are in Baine's Court (Quicksilver/ Roxy, Rip Curl, Billabong) The prices are at up to 70% off retail. We found that the clothes were mainly last seasons e.g. pair of bikini's were reduced from $79 to $20. A boys PVC surf wallet was $6, reduced from $19. I take these prices to be a bargain and we enjoyed the bargain shopping here.

Stopped here during the school holidays with family found the shops expensive and most of the clothing was seconds. Wouldn't bother. The beaches in winter were enjoyable as was a very run down Taylor Park.

Surf City Plaza is nothing more than a collection of average surf fashion stores. While many of these may be so-called "factory stores", their selection is narrow and most prices are MSRP Australia (which are much higher than average street prices in Europe and North America). Some shops have a large number of boards. Close examination reveals these to consist of multiple copies of the same board types/lengths/styles.Quciksilver did have a very good wetsuit selection on display, but the rest was pretty humdrum. "Factory outlet" pricing is restricted to stuff out back of the loading docks. Most of this is a jumble of obviously poor selling lines. I've encountered much better prices at any number of surf shops along the New South Wales coast.Local Torquay retailers are in on the act as well. The shops across the street from the factory stores have unimpressive selection of products and prices higher than the average street price in Australia. In my view, this plaza and its retailers are trading on the name of Torquay and Bells Beach. Not worth the time and price of fuel to drive from Melbourne (or anywhere else in Australia for that matter).

Don't forget the surfing museum. Surfworld. Fantastic exhibition that covers everything from the first day of surfing in australia right through to the modern era. Very reasonable entry fee of $10.

In the centre of Torquay, you will find Surf City Plaza located on the Surf Coast Highway. They have a great variety of retail shops with all the big brands- Rip Curl, Quicksilver, Billabong etc. Wet suits, T-shirts, swim wear, surf boards, sun glasses, watches, bags and the list goes on. Great for bargain hunters too- go to Baines Court in Torquay (around the corner to Surf City Plaza; McDonalds end) and you will find the big brand names at their discounted stores. There are a number of Cafes/Restaurants in the area too; if all this shopping has made you thirsty visit Charlies Cafe (formally known as the Chocolate Room)- They have the best hot chocolates!
