January the wave rock is charming scenery, she is gratifyingly large

We had not planned to see this wonder of nature, but as we drove past the entrance road, a swift change of plans ensued. The entrance fee did not upset us as someone has to keep the area clean and it is only right that visitors pay their way.It was awe inspiring to walk under the rock and speculate how Mother Nature fashioned it. We are sensitive to Aboriginal places and the atmosphere was too much for my wife and daughter as we went further along under the wave, but I was tempted to continue, some female taboo, but only sensitive people would notice. The tourist shop was quite good but the souvenirs were not specifically unique to the rock. Perhaps that could be remedied.

its a long drive through wheat & sheep country to Hyden, but when you get there it is worth the effort. Sadly the tourist industry has attempted to cash in on Natures Beauty with a $10.00 parking fee at Wave Rock, but if you continue on to Hippos Yawn first there is free parking picnic area beside the big hippo. Then follow an enjoyable walk path along the rock base with interesting rock formations & lovely lizards along the way to the Wave Rock. A great way to enjoy the whole attraction. There is also a long sign posted walk path to follow if your energetic & that way inclined. We didnt do this as it is too far for our walking abilities. Wave Rock itself is Stunning & worth the effort. One of the great things is it is also Dog Friendly. There were no rules about taking our dog for a walk (on the lead) with us and met others doing the same thing. Great to have the freedom to see a lovely natural attraction despite the roads & parking & fencing going right up to it.

My wife and I planned a circle triup from Perth WA to Esperance, Albany, Margaret River, Bunbury and back to Perth,Our first stop was in Hyden, about 4 hours southeast of Perth to vist Wave Rock. We had pre-booked into the Hyden Hotel and were pleasantly surprised at the accommodations in this otherwise one-horse town. The setting is lovely, the rooms perfectly fine, and while the pool was closed after we had a swim (apparently Perth came and tested the water and found it wanting) I'm pleased to report that neither of us suffered ahy ill-effects. We elected to vist the Wave Rock that evening at sunset and it really was an amazing site. It's about 3.5 kms from the hotel and there's a $12 charge in the car park for the visit. We walked up the rock and took pictures and then scaled the stairs at the end of the wave to walk across the top at sunset and got some great shots. The history of the formation you will find out about when you get there. Back to the hotel for dinner, it's really the only place in town and it was BBQ night where you choose and pay for your raw meat and cook it yourself on the huge BBQ with all the "fixin's" you could want. A big salad bar with non-alcoholic beverages is included. every one was very friendly and helpful and we paid $140 for the night. We traveled on to Esperance the next morning...

This is sooo much bigger than I thought it would be mother nature is an amazing thing to create what she does, its like a wave has been frozen in rock.

the rock itself is breathtaking, and there are a few other rock formations in the area to see. However I would have been annoyed if I had driven from Perth to see it, rather than on the way to another location. Entrance to the rock is $10 per car of 4 people with additional adults at $5 and children at $3. There are average but cleanse toilet facilities 100m from the rock and a bbq picnic area too. There are a couple of odd but interesting things to do at the visitors centre also (lace place, a toy soldier museum and wildlife park)

I'm glad I saw this natural attraction, and it is pretty stunning. But it's not as huge as some of the marketing photos make out. Nonetheless, if you're touring the SW of Australia, include this wonder in your plans. Make sure you leave some time to visit the Hippo Yawn, and The Humps. Many people miss this other attraction which is only 16 kms away, but very charismatic and with a great aboriginal history and artworks. It's a bit spooky too!

It took four hours to drive to this 'rock' from Perth, but it was worth the effort, it is awesome, you look and don't quite understand how it came to be, it really is amazing. We were there in January and I have to say if anything spoilt the visit it was the flys!! You will need ten dollars in coins for the car park as well. We did the 3.6K nature rail but were unlucky as we didn't see very much wildlife at all -- only the flys

I toured with Adam's Coach Tours and had a great day. Drive Jacki fantastic.840kms return trip by coach.Stopped in York (first remote town) - worth the visit.Saw the rabbit proof fence along the way.Stopped at the museum/restaurant and had a great lunch and walk around the property. Look through the wildlife area for the largest koala I have ever seen.

I been there 1 day during my travel. Is a must! The rock is awesome but after 20 minutes there you say "ok, but now?" then there is a trail all around of 3.6km trought the nature. There is a lot of wild life to take a picture! Spending there one day you can see all the attractions of this small small town.

I went to Wave Rock, which is near a small town of Hyden, Western Australia, located 296 km east-southeast of Perth. Wave Rock is a great Australian landform, that looks like a giant surf wave of multicoloured granite, that changes colour & appearance throughout the day with the changing of the sunlight. Wave Rock is 14 metres high & 110metres long, which was formed over 2700 million years ago. It is so amazing to see the prehistoric attraction, walk around the rock walls, & surrounding bush land. Wave Rock wildlife park, has native animals such as kangaroos, wombats, wallabies, koalas & emus roaming freely. Along with amazing scenery & beautiful wild flowers. Truly a breathtaking experience, and a must to see.

What a delightful surprise to find that Wave Rock is not just a single shaped rock but part of a much larger granite escarpment. There are walks you can do around the escarpment and others that go out to other attractions of granite magnificence near by. We loved our day hiking around Wave rock. The view from on top of the rocks is stunning. You will need fly nets or insect repellent as the flies are very friendly.
