Lovely church to visit in Quito ! a must see while exploring the town! it is gold guilder from head to toe! However no pictures are allowed

The church is beautiful, but what really made it was the tour we received. Since I was there to study Spanish, the tour was given in Spanish, so I didn't catch all of it, but our guide helped break the language barrier with his enthusiasm and passion for his subject. Highly recommend.

The amount of gold in this church is amazing. Worth visiting, especially as it is in the center of the old town of Quito and easy to get to.

The is a must in Quito. The interior is amazing. I have never seen so much gold incorporated into a church.

We were able to get in with our guide, but not sure how "open" it is. Very impressive interior, but again, we were not allowed to take photos, but seems many others did. A guide always makes things more interesting since you get some background and history you wouldn't have from just wandering around by yourself. Worthwhile but not unusual

This is a stunning church. Almost everything is covered and gold plated. This is one of the most amazing churches that I have seen anywhere in the world. It is a must see when you are in Quito

This is a really quite impressive church and matches some of the best churches we have visited in South America. The reason for 4 stars is simply that overpriced (at $4 entrance) and the no photo policy is a little frustrating

Worth a visit when in the area, if your used to some of the great churches of the world its not in their league but for South America its an interesting statement on the role of religion in the country.

Nearly every surface inside this church is covered in gold leaf, in all perhaps 20 kg of gold, which seems very little when you consider all the intricacies of all the surfaces. This is a Jesuit church called the Church of the Society of Jesus, and is described as being of Spanish Baroque architecture. The columns on the outside of the church remind me of the altar at St. Peter's of Rome, as they look to be designed by Bernini.Gold leaf is applied to carved wood or plaster. Many of the designs are repeat patterns that show a distinctively Moorish influence. One of the naves had a fire at some point, but it has been restored to it's golden splendour. There has been considerable damage over the years from both fires and earthquakes. There are impressive columns and arches, and the predominant colours within the church are gold and blue. At the front of the church is a large mirror set below the altar to let visitors view the impressive stained-glass dome above without straining their necks. There is an admission fee (I believe $4), but it is worth it for its uniqueness. Sadly, pictures are not allowed inside the church. However, there are postcards (2/$1) for purchase in a little gift shop/vestry to the right of the altar.

A cathedral all paved in gold - WOW!!! Most amazing experience of my life. This is a must see in Quito.
