With a few hours to spare in Leticia, we decided to visit Mundo Amazonica. Not having any knowledge or expectations prior to the visit, I wished I had been able to spend more time there. The owners have spent many years creating a beautiful park displaying a wide variety of plants from the Amazon, obviously a labour of love. Our guide, the son of the owners, was extremely knowledgeable and took time to explain the uses of the various plants and their habitats. They are working with local schools to educate students and teachers about the flora and fauna of the area and to encourage recycling and reusing. Most definitely well worth an extended visit.

This park is a perfect way to begin your adventure in the Amazon. We had a great English speaking guide who helps run the place. The place used to be a cattle grazing area, but the founding family has repatriated the area with the local flora and fauna of the Amazon. Our guide was able to teach us about the diffferent plants, flowers, trees, and soil that we would experience over the course of our trip. I especially liked learning about the medicinal properties of the Amazonian plants. My husband enjoyed practicing shooting an indigenous blow gun used for hunting. The place was beautiful and so informative. Everywhere we went in the Amazon after going to this ecological park we spotted the same trees and flowers -- and knew what we were looking at. Definitely go here before you head anywhere else.

My trip to Mundo Amazonico exceeded my expectations. Me and my girlfriend went without knowing that much about the place. English speaking guide was also the son of the founder and ran the tourist part of the reserve. He was extremely knowledgeable about the plants and animals. It was easy to see he really cared about preserving the Amazon and educating people. Lunch was included and good and some of the food was grown on the grounds. It is a must for anyone who travels to the Colombian Amazon and wants to learn and contribute to its preservation.

The park affords a great diversity of plant specimens, wildlife, activities and even a visit to a tribe's patriarch. Our tour included lunch which was very good and transportation. However, I think 2-3 hours would have been sufficient time spent there enabling time for local excursions.

Excelente lugar. Volvere algun dia.Auto-sostenible, Ecológico, Educativo. un recorrido lleno de Diversión y Diversidad. Recomendado al 100%, si viajas a Leticia Amazonas pásate por Mundo Amazónico. I had just a weekend to travel to Amazonia from Bogotà, and picked this Parque Ecológico from internet. After a 3h tour in Leticia-Tabatinga on the Sat. afternoon, I stayed overnight at the Park, starting early on the Sunday with a full program, including a walk around the jungle with excellent guidance, no risks; then attended a presentation by a Uitoto-cacique for almost 1 h explaining all sorts of things about this indigenous community; then learning about all the plants/trees available in the Park (wide range of medicinal plants, fruits, trees...); then had a fantastic lunch with Amazonian fish; then had the opportunity to learn about many other indigenous communities in the area, seeing actual hunting utensils and various objects; and finally visited the fantastic acuarium organized by Dr. Carlos Tamayo, who has over 50 species of river fish and knows all about them, all perfectly clean and healthy.I learnt plenty about the region in just 24h, now I am still looking at my pictures trying to digest and enjoy all the experiences...Excellent staff, very safe and nice environment, I could recommend to anyone.Mundo AmazónicoRecorridos ecológicos.

We did this on our first day and loved it. We saw so many beautiful different flowers and types of fish. We learned a lot. I would highly recommend this.

Sadly I only found out about this place on my last day. I wish I had gone here first. They are doing fantastic work here trying to teach the local people about recycling and more sustainable farming practices. They are working with the local schools trying to influence behaviour. I was so sad in leticia where I witnessed such land degradation and garbage and the most popular tours are absolutely cruel to the animals. This place gave me a little glimmer of hope that all is not lost. Please go here before you go to any other tours. It is beautiful. It is so interesting and there is fun to be had with the blow gun and bow and arrow I learned more here about the area and the local people in a few hours than during my whole stay in leticia.

This is a great place to needs more attention from maybe the goverment or ONG. People there are working with great spirit but needs help from someone. The set up for the animals ( snakes ) needs more of any extra help. One thing for sure is that those that are working there are on their own for free and are well prapared people. The place ia about 7 kms. from the center and the " motorcar " ( tuk-tuk ) will charge you about 8,000 col pesos one way. You have to walk about 10-15 minutes in if you choose this transportation. It will take you about 3 hours if you decide to nkow and interact with snakes and plants.

Interesting, and truly a very beautiful ecological garden. But it's a garden, it's not Forest. And if you don't have seen the forest, you must go there first.

We wanted to get into the jungle and have a comprehensive tour. Our Hotel, actually just up the main road, didn't (want to) tell us about Mundo Amazonico but rather wanted to sell an expensive "activity". We found Mundo Amazonico in the lonely planet and had a fantastic time! Rafael, the head of the park, warmly welcomed us and first explained the 4 tours he offers (Amazon vegetation, indigenous culture, production of Amazon tea, Amazon waterlife). Each would take 45 minutes and cost 10,000 pesos per person. Then he went off to give us as much time as we wanted to discuss with my girlfriend which tours we want to take. We found that absolutely adorable, transparent and professional. We decided for 2 tours. As the stuff Rafael was telling us was super interesting, we asked many many questions and the first part of our tour took far to long (probably 2 hours) and Rafael has never become impatient with us. Just the opposite. When he saw that we were so excited about his project and the stuff he told us, he invited us for a jungle trip with compass and machete for the next morning to discover the rain forest of the reservation which was fantastic as well. This is a great project that offers the greatest Amazonian diversity in such a compressed area that you must not miss it when you are in Leticia! For that what he offered, it appeared far to cheap. We considered the price he told as a small allowance but donated way more -- effectively the value that we attached to the tour.Thank you again Rafael for the great insights!

My six years old daughter just loved the place, she had great fun learning about the indigenous cultures. The park provides a nice learning atmosphere to get a first impression of the Colombian amazon. The small productive projects they are starting are lovely, giving the difficulties they have faced so far. The food was really delicious. As a biologist the efforts made by this family to conserve and care for the region are impressive; since they do all with will force and it seems few to none support from any official entity. I was positively surprised on how knowledgeable the guides were.I wish them luck and that the project develops as a motor of knowledge and sustainable innovation in the region.

Mundo Amazonico is a great place to go when you first arrive to Leticia. You get alot of info regarding the local flora and fauna and indigenous culture. It is an ecological preserve that was built on land that had previously been cleared for cattle ranching. The soil here is very fragile and the top soil is less than 8 inches (15 cm approx). This is a FAMILY RUN operation that decided to REFOREST the land they had cleared with local fruit bearing trees; this is known as a SECONDARY FOREST. Rafael is a trail blazer in the area of CONSERVATION and PROTECTION of the AMAZON RAIN FOREST. He was born in LETICA and studied abroad in AUSTRALIA. You will enjoy this if you are a nature enthusiast, want to learn what you can do to protect the rain forest and thirsty for knowledge. They are also preparing and selling local herbal teas and chocolate made using local cacao.

near Leticia . A nice beginning because you get to know the wonders of the jungle before you begin the real adventure. Staff are very nice.

My visit to Mundo Amizonico was great! The guides were friendly and knew what they were talking about, and they even had English speakers. It was awesome to be right in the middle of the Amazon learning about all the different plants and their uses. I also enjoyed the aquarium and getting to hold a tree frog! Plus it seems like they really care about their work, trying to support the indigenous people and educating their visitors about deforestization and pollution. A great was to spend your day!
