We visited the convent with friends, and spent about an hour walking through the many rooms of displays and the grounds. There is, of course, a lovely church from colonial times. It was about a 30 minute drive from Villa de Leyva over good to poorer gravel roads. If you are not really interested in the Catholic history in Colombia, I would skip this visit.

Ecco-Homo is a beautifully restored monastery open to the public. Delightful in its setting and is well worth the visit. Attractive chapel and the simple displays in the rooms that are open are quite interesting. In particular there is an exceptional small exhibition of vestements. I have absolutely no special interest whatsoever in embroidery but the close up examination of these garments shows astonishing care and skill in their preparation. But don't let this put you off! This is a lovely restoration and quite enchanting. Cool and peaceful.Easy to find. Carry on past the 'El Fossil' museum and it is signed. The road quality is not great but don't let that put you off. Look out for a well signed track to your left and the kilometre trail is unusually marked with numbered stone crosses at intervals.

This large stone convent is about 13 km from Villa de Lleyva and has a lovely open courtyard with cobbled pathways and rooms off to the side displaying religious artefacts of the period. It's lovely and cool inside after heat of the town. It's set in the country and there's a small adjacent cemetery. There's also a small gift shop that sells locally made wine.

Beautifully restored with a real feeling of what it was like over the past few hundred years. If you love churches and monasteries, this is a real winner. We could have spect two hours here.

This small convent features a number of rooms with old manuscripts, clothes and various objects used by the religious who were living there. The visit will not take long and it is a good addition to the other attractions surrounding Villa de Leyva

This is a beautiful old, historical, quaint church. The architecture is gorgeous, you see a ton of fossils right inlaid in the floor and walls, the grounds are also very well kept. There is one room with old religious statues and pieces of statues that is kind of creepy but other than that the place if beautiful.

This is one of my favorite place to visit in Villa de Leyva. The area is beautiful and the place is beautiful. The area surrounding the place is very peaceful. I think the monastery still on. Highly recommended!

A 17th century Dominican monastery that is now slowly being restored. Good example of the architecture of that age and some artefacts to show what life was like some years ago was like.

Fantastic, make sure you don't miss this place. It is not in Villa de Leyva itself, 25 minutes driving distance. Plenty of cheap transport will take you there, we had a driver from the hotel. Go, you will not regret it

If you are in Villa de Leyva during a rainy afternoon, as it happened to us, and you don't know what to do, you could jump on a taxi (they are parked at the bus terminal) and, for 40000 COP$, go to the Ecce Homo conventus (for that price, taxi will wait there for you for all the time you will need for the visit). Honestly speaking, this is not a must-see attraction, especially if you are coming from a strong Catholic country such as Italy, France or Spain, anyway (and mainly if you are coming from a place where you haven't these architectural attractions) it's good to see how in Colombia monks were living. Entrance costs 5000 $.

Lonely Planet totally sold me on this place and this place didn't live up to my expectations. I'm not really a fan of churches and the guidebook made it seem as though the church was made of stones with fossils in them, so something unique. There were a few fossilized stones but nothing outstanding. Otherwise it was an average church. The scenery around the site was beautiful though and I loved seeing the countryside on the drive out there.

It is a very beautiful place, its architecture, the church, pictures and every thing is very nice. However, in my case the guide was very poor.
