The Gato Waterfall is in a very nice place surrounded by Atlantic Forest. You can easily spend a few hours there to get away from the beach and the sun. Be prepared for the Borrachudos (little mosquitoes that drink your blood).

This is a must do. We took a jeep with a guide through the statepark and castlehanos beach. He then took us on the hike towards the waterfalls. Make sure you bring decent sneakers/closed shoes and bugs spray ofcourse! The hike is really enjoyable walking through the forest and crossing over water. It was misty and wet when we were which added to the drama of the forest. We then reached the waterfall and jumped right in. It was AWESOME! One of the highlights from the trip and a lot of fun.

Great views and worth the short hike, about 20 minutes. We went to it as part of a Jeep tour, swam in the pond beneath the falls--it is cold, be ready. I would recommend Maremar Aventura Turismo for the jeep tour and Marebar for lunch!

Beautiful waterfall with a small pond to dive in. The hike is about 30 min, an easy one. Do not forget to use repellent to avoid black flies!!

Definitely worth a visit. As part of a jeep safari to Castelhanos beach, we made the climb to the Waterfall. It was a great experience to swim and "shower" under the waterfall!

This waterfall is located on the opposite side of the island, close to Castelhanos Beach. It is a bit of an adventure to get there and you need to go either by jeep, bike or by foot. By jeep, it takes a little under two hours (depending on weather) but it sooo worth it! The beach itself is just gorgeous and kept by the locals who have been living there for ages without electricity, using fishing and tourism as their trade. To get to the waterfall, it is recommended to have a guide because it is a roughly 40 minute walk through the jungle, although the trail is marked. Once you arrive, you are greeted with a cascade of water dropping 80m. It is the biggest waterfall on the Island and the weight and force of the water has opened up a small pool amongst the rocks at the bottom. This is perfect for you to just sit back in and enjoy. When the waterfall is not too full, you can slide beneath the fall and get an amazing massage. Here in Brasil, they say it's good for you to wash your soul in a waterfall, and this would be a perfect one to do just that.

The trekking is about 30 to 40min of easy walking in the forest starting from Gato´s Beach (at the end of Castelhanos Beach). Totally worth it!

We had a lovely afternoon swimming in Gato waterfall. It is a bit of a hike, about 30 minutes, from Castelhanos beach (easy if you're active, medium difficulty if you're sedentary). Absolutely worth it, though, as its very pretty and has a pool at the bottom where you can swim.Tivemos uma ótima tarde na cachoeira do gato. É uma caminhada de 25-30 minutos da praia de castelhanos, fácil se você esta em forma, mas difícil se é sedentário. Mas compensa, porque é muito bela a cachoeira e pode-se nadar nela.

A cachoeira do Gato é acessado por uma trilha a partir da praia de Castelhanos. O jeito mais fácil e seguro é através de uma agência de viagens das muitas que existem em ilha bela, com guia. Trilha de fácil acesso, dá para apreciar a vegetação local até chegar na cachoeira, muito bonita que forma um tanque na sua queda apropriado para banho. Muito bom.

A cachoeira e linda! Forma uma piscina natural e a caminhada para chegar lá não é tão difícil. Nível médio. Leve repelente. Borrachudos!
