We walked past this Basilica and were so impressed by its façade that we just had to see what was inside! We weren't disappointed by the experience. The interior of the Basilica is not as intricate nor covered in golden sculptures but with its fair share of paintings it is beautiful. The vist of the monastery and ossuary was also worth the time.Entrance fees are minimal and the visits are worth the price of admission.

It is an amazing Church, but not the best in Salvador , I was in Easter time and there were Celebration all the time, quite original for an European

Average exterior and rather plain interior, this church is located on a lively square with two other churches that are under renovation as well as the old medical school (now a museum). Deserves a brief look.

The cathedral is a masterpiece of sacred art. Despite the altar is being revamped the church smells history. You do not need a guid to tour inside and also the cellar. The entance costs R$3/person.

I agree with previous reviews that although worth seeing it is no the best that Salvador has to offer, we preferred Sao Francisco and Igreja NS do Rosary dos Pretos. The body of the church is still stunning but there there is limited information to guide you.

Basilica Cathedral is quite handsome and would seem much more worthy if it didn't have to compete with the magnificence of Sao Francisco. It's definitely worth a look if you're willing to visit more than one church.

Typical baroque style church. Really impressive and they have also preserved the rooms of the bishop and priests. I suggest first to visit this church and then Sao FRancisco to see the big difference.

In the mannerist style like Portuguese churches. It was first built in 1551 in the center of the town. Today the local is called Praça da Sé.

Worth a visit due to its historic importance, and to see some impressive old decorations etc, but it is quite a sterile place, and the associated rooms have very little to see in them and there is very little signage or explanations etc (in any language). We spent about half an hour in total in here. If you only have time or inclination to go to one church go to San Francisco in the old city/pelourinho, a 5 minute walk away.

Full of good spiritual feeling, great building. Used to be the top church in Brazil. Very beautiful and welcoming.

Well preserved colonial catholic cathedral typical of its day in Salvador. Worth a visit. see all the traditional ribbons tied onto the fence

That such places of worship are constructed shows no link to the common people. However, it is a stunning work of art, the like of which grace the grandest cathedrals and palaces of the Catholic world.

If you are catholic, you will love this cathedral, it is an old cathedral but very well preserved, and not too far from the center of Salvador

An amazing thing about this working church is the wall of ribbons outside. Each tied onto the fence as a wish or memorial left by people!

you need a good guide with you to appreciate all this cathedral has to offer. perfectly located within the old, restored, historic city center
