Zoologico el refugio is a such a divine place that it is quite hard to review it. this is not an ordinary business modeled zoo ment to make money but a project of one amazing woman who's dream was to help animals and save them. Go there, meet a real, love driven, refugee for animals.

A nice little refuge with monkeys and some beautiful parrots. The place is looking a little worn down and could do with a little bit of maintenance - the volunteers looked clueless,I saw one of them just walking around waving a macheteb at thin air

It is great to see what these people do to save animals that have been in captivity in bad conditions to give them a "home". Most of them are volunteers and unfortunately their "customer Service" is not the best. Otherwise I would have giving them an "Excellent"

Zoologico El Refugio is my most favourite place on earth, its a little paradise.. Its only a 5 minute taxi drive from the lovely village of Samaipata, nestled in between trees and a beautiful landscape.. As soon as you enter the Refugio Zoologico, you can see all the hard work that has been put into this place by Manuela, the owner and the many many volunteers who dedicated their time to do something good for these amazing animals.. There is a vast variety of animals you can find here, from monkeys to eagles, from mountain cats to horses and birds to some strange animals that I havent even ever heard of before, like "hotches" etc. Some of the animals are free, like the extremely friendly monkeys.. they love to come and give you a cuddle or play with you.. it is a very unique experience to get so close to these wonderful animals, get a big cuddle of a howlermonkey or play with a cheeky little capuccin monkey.. The owner of the refugee is a lovely swiss lady, Manuela, who has dedicated her life to saving animals that have been mistreated, hunted or who's mothers have been killed by poachers.. All she wants is for these animals to have a good life, and she works tiredlessly towards it. I could not speak any higher of this place, please go visit, have the experience of a lifetime and help rescuing these amazing animals!!

Thank you for your visit. We are really sorry for your bad experience with the kid area. Indeed, we have a platform which is high of 2m50 that we have built for the older kids. We do consider that the area is always watched by the parents when the kids are playing. Besides you have to know that bcause some younger kids want to go up in this game too, we did close this way out of the game, but still the kid should be always on parents watch.
