Although I am not a fan of Amber, still decided to visit it. The entry fee was small, and I was tempted to climb on top of the tower, to see the city from up above. The collection is quite impressive, with some beutiful pieces.

Museum located in old defensive tower. Some of doorways are only 1,70m high, so be careful. In the museum you can find some exhebitions: amber history, accessories made from amber and finery of different cultures.Exhibition of amber divided in small booths. Most impressive booth are about insects steeped in amber, parts of Amber room in St-Petersburg and differents works of art made from amber.

Everything you need to know about amber is explained in this museum. And the collection of carvings, dishes and artwork from amber is incredible. I like to wear amber, and I'm glad that I now know more about it.

I spent almost two hours inside this very interesting museum. Besides beautiful displays of various pieces and creations of things made using pieces of amber, there was a lot of good information about the origin of Amber and its uses. It is set in an old lookout tower with interesting history about that as well. This was also the first place that I visited, after the airport and hotel, on arriving in Kaliningrad. It is well worth a visit!

i work at the Amber museum but i write this reference not to advertise the museum but to make some moments clear. The exposition consists of both originals (of 3-5 cent. AC, of 17-18 cent., of the early 1930-40s, contemprorary objects) and replicas of other articles we haven't got the originals of. The largest piece of amber in Russia (4 kg) is situated in the exposition too. The ticket costs 180 rubles but there are discounts for students and free entrance at some particular days. You can take photos of the exhibits as much as you want but without flash. And the building where the museum is situated is worth visiting too as it is the 19th centure fortress. You can go to the the top of the tower to have a nice panoramic view at the city

Old-fashioned museum with USSR styled displays and medieval nice surroundings, awsome round patio with fountain. It is on the top of to-see-list of Koenigsberg. There are stalls with quaint crafted souvenirs just in front of the entrance to museum. (The far from the museum gate, the more cheap-looking and flashy jewels are sold)

It's the one of a very few museums in Kaliningrad that is worth visiting. You'll get to know the history of amber and see a variety of pieces of art made from this gem: from tiny to great ones. Many of them are unique. There are as well many shops where one can buy goods from amber at a nice price.

We went to this humble little museum for a bit of fun really...its not spectacular but its a nice way of killing an hour and is pleasantly located near the lakes in the city which are very nice to walk around. I didn't realize Amber was so important to this region so I did learn something good there

Unfortunately, my last visit to the Amber Museum in Kaliningrad was real disappointment. Compared with amazing amber museums in neighbouring countries - Palanga, Lithuania and Gdansk, Poland, the one in Kaliningrad is like a poor cousin. Few diaramas unchanged since 1970s, few huge natural pieces of amber and some old-fashioned jewelry, probably from the same period, although the amber profile of Lenin is gone. No statistics on amber mining, no interesting unknown facts, nothing to inspire a curious and dedicated visitor. And this is the museum in the administrative center of the region, which, presumably, posesses over 90% of the worldwide amber resources. Pity, and not worth wasting your time.

My mother had an amber necklace that she treasured and in our family amber was a rare delight reminiscent of immigrant origins. What a delight to take a trip to the source and see in in abundance not only for sale in shops and stands, but especially to see its historical and artistic richness in this lovely museum. I think the glow of the amber still makes me feel warm, weeks after the short visit here.

This museum is located at some distance away from the city centre but not too long you can even walk and found it quite interesting and does explain how amber is formed and it's history and there is also a shop with plenty to choose.

very modest exposition if not to say more. better come with kids as there's really not much to look at.

Some very cool pieces of amber can be seen here- including ones with fossilised insects inside, around 40 million years old. There is an extra charge for taking photographs and this is policed by curators inside the museum. It was quite hot inside, but I think it is worth a visit just to see some of the beautiful craftsmanship created from amber. If you are looking for some little gifts to take away, I would definitely shop around the stalls before buying anything as prices seem to vary from stall to stall for similar goods.
