Rousse is one of the most beautiful cities in Bulgaria, this is a fact! Its central part is elegant, giving you the feeling you are in Vienna, or another European city. The central squire is magnificent if we exclude the ugly building of the Municipality (remain from the communist times). Everything is planned with a finesse. ....

In the middle of Rousse main square stands the Monument of Freedom build by Italian sculptor Arnoldo Zocchi in 1906. The text shows that the monument is devoted "On fighters and volunteers who participated in the liberation of Bulgaria in 1867 - 1877"

The square is steeped in history from the monument to the surrounding buildings. I was here in day and night times. The colours of a night are serene blue. Day time is lively with the many cafés and restaurants with plenty of outside areas. Highly recommend for anyone interested in culture of Bulgaria.

The meaning behind Freedom Square is more important than the fountains or even the monument that has been erected to recognise the most important meaning. The whole square is a dedication to the people of Ruse and Bulgaria for the importance they place on freedom. Therefore the locals may use this as a meeting point but they feel a sense of being just by being here. Having said that the fountains and the monument are great to view.

In the middle of the city of Ruse is located Freedom Square. It is the historical centre of the city and because of that it's surrounded by neoclassical examples of architecture. The Square itself is spacious and green. In the middle is located the monument of liberty and right behind it is located the biggest fountain in the city. Next to it is located the fountain of Heracle and next to it is the round fountain. The whole square is formed as a garden and there are some rare floral species. Right next to the square are the Municipality, the theatre, the courthouse and the building of the first bank in Bulgaria. There are lots of cafes and restaurants in the area and if you want you can hire a rickshaw to go around the centre. From the both northern sides of the square starts the Aleksandrovska str., witch is one of the main boulevards in the city. There are located lots of shops and two discos, also lots of restaurants and one trade centre.

I spend few hours during my visits in Ruse in this place. There are 3 fountains and this is the main meeting/walking place of the city.

A large open space, home to impressive fountains and monuments, and surrounded by impressive architecture. Plenty of benches and places to rest a while, with the tranquil scenes of a summer evening sunset are our favourite. Freedom Square is only a short walk from several of the city's main pedestrian shopping precincts, and the popular "Happy Grill" restaurant is close by.

Nice place to hang out, but it is not spectacular. I must admit that the architecture though is quite nice. Also the fountain, which has some nice lights in the night.

Beautiful square, having kept the atmosphere of the old centuries and at the same time - stylish and modern! Beautifully lid Opera House in the evening. A must see place!

We found Freedom Square to be a nice square in the center of Town. The open areas, buildings, shops and restaurants in the area were a step above that normally seen in Eastern Europe. It provide a nice lunch stop on our transit from Bulgaria into Romania.
