It was a real challenge for us to get there but it is so worth it. As getting to the bridge could be a tough task, I have started my review with some notes from my experience. You can get there only by car and still, there is some things to consider before you reach the bridge. As we noted, one of the options which many people prefer is to leave the car on the place where the asphalt road finishes and from there to walk to the bridge for about 30 minutes. The second option, which we opted for, is to get to the bridge itself by car. However, you need to bear in mind that the road is very rough, extremely narrow and dangerous. It was a huge challenge even for my husband who is a professional driver. We were very lucky we didn’t come across another car as we had no idea how we would have passed one another. It might look a bit complicated but it is all manageable. It would be a good idea to go there with a 4x4. Once you have got to the bridge you meet with a rare beauty. My first glimpse of the bridge over the Arda River with peaceful surroundings is something I will always remember. The bridge, pronounced Dyavolski Most, was built at the very beginning of the 16th century when Bulgaria was under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. It was constructed over the ruins of an ancient Roman bridge on the road connecting the Thracian lowlands and the Aegean Sea coast. It is one of the wonders of medieval architecture in the Balkans because of its elegance and great achievements of engineering skills. It has never had any sort of repair or restoration work done since the day it was built, nearly 500 years ago. There are some beautiful photos of the bridge on the internet with reflection on the water. Take a closer look and you will find out why it was called the Devil’s bridge.

Unique place of mystery and legends. Dangerous but really nice place. It's worth seen at least once.

Awesome natural limestone arches as a result of collapsed caverns. Beware if you're unsteady on your feet as the rough paths can be a little daunting.

Directions aren't great and the road from Ardino isn't good in bad weather but the bridge is so spectacular it more than makes up for it. Built by monks in the 15th century it is a huge construction spanning a river that floods so high in spring it nearly reaches the top of the massive arches. The approach on both sides is so steep in places it's hard to believe this was a regular trade route. Cars can only approach from Ardino and have to stop a short distance away so access is limited to walkers but it's a regular fishing spot for the Bulgarians and there is a roofed mechana for barbecuing your catch. There are many sandy beaches along the river Arda offering different views of the bridge where you can relax and admire its beauty.
