olive-press museum of archipelagos society

At last after many visits to Lesvos we reached this lovely museum. Carefully laid out with informative captions in Greek and English this was a true delight. The complex is overseen by a lovely young lady who was most helpful and knowledgable in regards to the history of this old olive press that has been meticulously renovated and restored. There is even an opportunity to sample and or purchase their extra virgin olive oil along with some tastefully conceived historical books about Lesvos, olives and the people who contributed to this important industry on the island.

This is the most beautiful museum I have ever visited! The restoration of the old buildings was astonishing, the machinery at display impressive, and quiet music playing in the background. On top of this a charming young woman in the ticket sale explaining us all we wanted to know on the olive oil production. I will love to come back.

We had the place to ourselves most of the time which felt a little strange but the explanation signs were very good and we learned so much. A lovely setting. Just a pity it isn't used anymore, and amazing that they didn't have any samples of local olive oil to taste and/or buy!

Lesvos island is a big island, so if you're near (near Gera for exemple) this place is a must visit place. We enjoyed each room and the information was good. Very nice exhhibit of olive oil production details.

I have no words to describe this unique museum as it really surprised me in every minute of my visit there.It used to be an olive press before and the most amazing is that it had become ruins before renovation and you can see the pictures before the good work that was made there.It's a complex of 11 different halls in a circle where you watch the different stages of work made by machine and other equipment.Listening guide system is provided and the entrance costs 3 euro. Open daily 9am - 9pm.Lesvos' olive trandition is very old and this museum is a gem for the island !After Gera you'll find signs to lead you to village Papados.Nobody must miss a visit there, really !

Die Anlage ist sehr schön aufbereitet. Das Museum in Agia Paraskevi ist jedoch schöner. Die Anlage an sich ist ähnlich. Dort gibt es jedoch mehr zusätzlich zu sehen. Fazit: eins der Museen reicht. Man sollte sich überlegen ob man Zusatzinformationen möchte oder nicht
