archaeological museum of chora

We came to Pylos to see the Mycenaean Palace of Nestor, but unfortunately it was closed until further notice. So we went to the Museum to get at least some idea about the place. This museum is not very large and rich, but composed by dedicated people and exposition shows and tells a great deal about the Palace and the life in it. The fragments of frescoes are among the best I have seen, pieces are smaller than those from Tiryns or Mycenae in the National museum in Athens or those from Knossos, but colors, compositions, explanations where the pieces belonged and how they looked before, are so very well made. In my opinion smaller museums like this can show much more of context than big and shiny museums with thousands of artefacts, where the visitor can not take enough time to look properly at the piece of art; and the atmosphere here is more quiet for a careful exploration.After visiting this museum we felt we had gotten an idea about how the Palace of Nestor looked like, without actually being on the site.
