This is a private museum and unique in the sense that the owner has collected artifacts and pictures of the past centuries showing how the interior of the houses was a couple of centuries ago. How the cooking was done, the cribs of the babies in the old days, the dress code, the doweries, but most of all the life of the sponge divers. How they were getting ready to depart for the Southern seas, what was life like when they were home and when they were gone. Finally the ritual of their return but also the ritual and the mourning of when there was no return !

Loved the way the owner had turned his house into a shrine to the past of the island. Full of information and fascinating artefacts. As we left the owner called us in to the back room and gave us a glass of what he called Kaymnian wine. Well recommended.

An excellent small museum giving a good feel to what life was like in Kalymnos in previous days, from weddings, home life and of course the sponge divers

Очень рекомендуем посетить этот музей, если вы вдруг попадете на Калимнос. В нем можно узнать об истории, обычаях, укладе жизни местных жителей, очень душевное, теплое место.Если повезет то вас угостят местным вином похожим на кагор. А в лавке можно купить местные травы, масла на травах и сувениры.

Le Musée du Folklore de Kalymnos est aujourd'hui partie intégrante du Musée Municipal Maritime incontournable pour connaitre ce que fut l'activité principale des kalymniotes: la pêche et le traitement des éponges. Il est petit mais exhaustif: techniques de pêche, vie sociale rythmée par les départs et les retours des marins, maladies professionnelles. Longtemps délaissée par les touristes, l'ile de Kalymnos attire par la qualité de sa gastronomie à prix doux, l'accueil sincère de ses habitants. Elle se tourne vers le tourisme sportif: plongée, escalade et a aussi vocation au tourisme culturel par les sites merveilleux qu'elle recèle: Kastro byzantin de Chora, basilique paléochrétienne de l'ilot de Telendos

Ci siamo capitati per caso, scendendo a piedi dal Monastero di ag. Savvas.E' una raccolta privata di numerosissimi oggetti collezionati negli anni in ricordo di come era un tempo la vita a Kalymnos.Un opuscolo in italiano, molto ben scritto, racconta delle 6 ambientazioni delle case di un tempo. Ci sono oggetti utilizzati per i lavori manuali quotidiani, quelli utilizzati dai pescatori di spugne: l' enorme e pericolossissimo casco, la pietra per scendere sul fondo e come il loro lavoro si è modificato nel tempo. La camera della sposa mostra tutti i suoi arredi ed il bellissimo abito nunziale. Sono raccolti tutti gli arredi di una casa, servizi preziosi ,libri antichi, fotografie, culle dei bimbi e tantissimi altri oggetti. Per l' ingresso si pagano 3 euro.
