erimitis beach

Erimitis beach on Paxos is one of very few on the West of Paxos that is accessible. By accessible I mean you can get there, but it is a trek.However it is well worth it. This is a little gem of a beach accessed down a narrow, very steep and poorly surfaced track, followed by a precipitous walk down an even narrower path.Surrounded by towering cliffs and with no facilities to speak of its appeal is the spectacular nature of its setting.There are a couple of tiny sandy patches at the waters edge but mainly pebbly with a few rocky outcrops. If you want somewhere quiet this is definitely a must.

It's quite a walk down to the beach with the final access being down a narrow rocky pathway so wear something sensible on your feet as some of the rocks are slippery. Your reward for getting to this beach is a stunning location. If you intend to spend the day at this beach take a packed lunch and plenty to drink.

Having been to all the secluded and picturesque beaches in the Ioanian islands I can say with certainty that Erimitis is not to be missed.Newly formed in 2008 by landslide,it is an impressive landscape where you can still see an immense pile of rocks at one side and feel numerous boulders inside the sea (sea shoes are advised).The scenery is dramatic and resembles similar Ionian beaches such as the Shipweck in Zakynthos,Petanoi in Cephalonia,Porto Katsiki in Lefkada and Gidaki in Ithaca only quiet and less touristic.Surely the best on the island!

una delle pochissime spiagge accessibili della costa ovest di Paxos. Si accede fino ad un certo punto con la macchina, e già qui la vista è mozzafiato, poi si parcheggia l'auto in un piccolo spazio x massimo 5-6 auto ed inizia la discesa a piedi. Il sentiero è fattibile ma non il massimo x la sicurezza (in Italia sarebbe proibito). Dopo l'ultima discesa con gradini scoscesi e senza parapetto, si arriva su una spiaggia di ciotoli bianchi, con pochissime persone. Da un lato il mare impetuoso, dall'altro una parete alta 100 metri completamente verticale e tu in mezzo sui ciotoli che riflettono la luce accecante del sole. Il tutto ha una atmosfera rilassante ed inquietante allo stesso tempo ma sicuramente coinvolgente. Interessante è anche una antica costruzione con funzione di serbatoio x l'acqua, serviva x i pescatori?, x le navi di passaggio? X i naufraghi? A voi la comprensione. La difficile discesa vale la vista, la consiglio x vedere qualcosa di diverso dalle altre baiette di Paxos. La spiaggia è tranquilla e frequentata poco ma è comunque rumorosa x il fragore del mare. Attenzione alle frane. Raccomando di portare acqua, occhiali da sole e serenità interiore. FdG
