Right next to the Kurhaus museum lies this oasis of tranquility. The locality is about half a kilometer from the centre of Kleve with its hustle and bustle yet here in the gardens you are sublimly unaware of it. The view from the top over the canal constructed by Graaf Johan Maurits von Nassau-Siegen stretching towards the Rhine with the beautiful oak trees on either side it really is worth a visit. Directly opposite the gardens is a good restaurant as well, the Landhaus Restaurant with good traditional German fare. I sound bowled over. Yes I am and what's more, I live just up the road from the gardens and often take a walk there with family and friends and the children especially love the place where they can run and play and feed the ducks. The Kleve Zoo (Tiergarten) is 100m away where there's a wonderful petting zoo for the kids. Well worth a visit when in Kleve.

Situated next to Cleve "Zoo". Nice place for a walk near downtown Cleve. Parking is no problem. The arboretum is rich in shadow , The lanes to walk in the historical park (layed out by a Nassau relative) lead towards a hill where more trails eventually lead up to a tower (you have to cross a street to reach the top) from where one can see Kalkar, Elten. Need a rest? A nearby restaurant within the park serves good foo and has , of course, toilets.

Nice place to visit with kids. Great view from upstairs. Nice place to walk. If you are lucky, you may see the horses walk around.

In the 17th century Brandenburg Governor Johan Maurits von Nassau-Siegen established his Seat and residence in the Duchy of Cleves and had the surrounding site landscaped as park: one central point (Sternberg) of which 12 avenues start which lead to special vantage points, including the amphitheatre on the Springenberg. In front of the site of the amphitheatre ends the channel which had to connect the Rhine with Kleve: the approximately 600 meter long water basin is an extra "point de vue". The gardens were partly destroyed during Napoleonic wars and had to be rebuilt under Prussian rule in 1821. Landscape architect Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe planned the redevelopment and gave the site, which had been dominated by Baroque symmetry, the character of an English landscape garden.
