marienburg fortress

这是西南部山上的要塞，历届大主教的居所，从市区也看得到其雄姿。过老桥之后，穿过马路一直走有个入口，过了城门之后最好向右边走，往左边走的话景色很好，但需要绕大一圈才能走到中庭。中庭内有教堂，走到领主庭园就看得到市区。城堡本身在山上，最外面是几重墙壁，墙内还有护城沟，到中庭需要过几个城门，可见这要塞具有强大的防御能力。

This was a very, very interesting place to see, the Marienburg Fortress overlooking the Main River in Wurzburg, Germany....you can catch the Bus in downtown Wurzburg and it will take you right to the gate......this old Fortress/Castle is very well preserved and has many attractions to see.....it also has the Marienburg Museum which has many old treasures....this is well worth the time......about a three hour trip........Bill in North Texas

Very enjoyable walk across the oldest bridge in Europe to the Fortress. Take your time as the walk from the city could prove moderately strenuous for some but worth the expended calories. Take your time enjoying the Fortress...should take no more than a few hours for the walk and to see the sights.Museum and other indoor attractions are Closed on Mondays. But a great day to see the Fortress with little to no people.

Great walk up to the fortress which was easy enough and around its grounds with an amazing view of Wurzburg

The fortress is one of the biggest in Germany and worth the visit! Nice to see from the city but even nicer from above. You can see the whole city. Best time to visit during summer!!

Amazing architecture. Provides a great view of the town perfect photo opportunities. A must see if visiting the area.

It is very beautiful fortress which can show you a view of old ages. it has very beautiful landscape both inside and outside near Main river.

This is a very beautiful look at the old Germany which is so romantic and charming it's not everywhere so when you find in stop to really enjoy it.

When you are still healthy, walk there over the "Alte Mainbrücke" by foot, then climb a little and in about 30 minutes you should reach the Festung and then you are rewarded by a magnificent view over the whole city!

The journey to the mighty fortress required a hike up the hill, and upon crossing the bridge two diverging paths were suggested to me by a signpost. To the left was a long and winding path past vineyards scattering the slope, a less strenuous route for one looking to catch their breath easily. The low sun in the sky told me that I may need to hurry to get back to the train station to catch my train, so I chose the path to the right, cutting across vertical buildings and climbing steep stairs to reach the hill within a shorter period but reaching the top with burning calves.The Princes' Garden was supposed to be a spectacular view, but as it was with the Court Gardens, the flowers had yet to bloom and only a patch of brown greeted me. The Main-Franconian Museum was opened year long but the other highlight, the Princes' Building only opened from 16 March to October. That makes 2 highlights which I missed, leaving me just the keep itself and its surrounding which was all right for me.The keep was divided into 2 wards - the inner and outer bailey. Both wards were quite spacious but the inner ward contained more photogenic items. The center of the inner bailey was dominated by a domed St Mary's Church (Marienkirche) and a tall tower which seemed to be the central keep. I wasn't interested in visiting the Main-Franconian Museum, housed in the outer bailey, so I spent most of my time taking photos of the inner bailey instead.My climb up to Marienberg was not just for the fortress, but also for the spectacular view it afforded. There were grassy patches outside of the keep which allowed the public to drink in the view of the town, and lots of people did just that. The unobstructed view allowed me to gauge how big the town was (which is really big), and the unobstructed vista extended far to the north, east (where the Old Town is located) and south from the fortress.

Admittedly, this is a little bit of a walk, but go slowly and enjoy the views. You will not be disappointed! There is no admission for the fortress, and it is very impressive.

This is a large fortress that is still on use today, mainly by city archives and other services. It is a fascinating walk to see how large and well maintained it is. How ever of you don't arrive for the tour, and especially if it is November then there is almost nothing to do side the museum would be closed. If you want to visit this site make sure you arrive for a tour and the museum is open. Otherwise it may be a disappointing stop. But it's definitely worth a stroll. Safe travels!
