I have been to Maulbronn many times, and am blown away each time by how beautiful it is! There is a small entrance fee I believe, and there are audio guides for a small fee, which I definitely recommend if you are interested in knowing more about the history of the place, which indeed is quite fascinating! This is a large complex to explore, a fascinating remnant of medieval history in the region. I cannot recommend this place enough, if you have the time, go and enjoy! I have a travel blog of sites in the area and a more in depth post on Maulbronn if anyone is interested in other lesser known places to visit:http://hiddeningermany.blogspot.ca/2013/07/maulbronn-monastery.html

On a genealogical quest in the region of Leinzingen and Maulbronn, I went to what I thought was a simple cemetery, and I ironically waked into the courtyard of an ancient walled monastery near Stuttgart. I was amazed at not just the monastery, but the half-timbered buildings and local beer. If you're in Stuttgart or elsewhere in southwestern Germany, this is a cool place to visit.

The monastery is exceptionally well preserved and deserves it's place as UNESCO world heritage site. it was a cold day when we were there and we defiantly needed our jackets, gloves and hats. If you are traveling in winter make sure to bring as it is not heated. We took an audio tour in English which was great. It was very informative and easy to follow. The panels are all in German only though but there are some pamphlets in the monastery in English.

Great place to walk around - probably the best preserved medieval monastery in Germany, including inside courtyard and the old village. The only downside is there isn't anything to do aside from walk around and read a few brief informational panels, which are only in German.

I have been to a lot of Christmas Market here in Germany (Stuttgart, Durlach, Kaiserslautern, Esslingen and more) but this is my favorite of them all. It is small enough that you get to see everything and enjoy the food as well. (I had the fresh smoked salmon - they were smoking the salmon there!)The market opens at 11 and we were there at 1130. The line in the food stalls are not that long yet and so we were able to enjoy eating and drinking our gluhwein. We were able to take our time browsing the different products in the store, too. As the place were starting to get crowded, we bought a ticket to see the Abbey. And before it starts geting really dark, we started heading out. Maulbronn's Christmas market is only 1 weekend in December so you have to check the dates before hand. They also have Easter market which I heard is really worth the visit, too. The ticket for the Abbey is 17 Euro for a family of 4.

A spectacular place to visit. It's a UNESCO world heritage listed site. Tours available in different languages. It was a hot day but nice a cool inside the buildings.

A beautiful scenic road leads you from Karlsruhe to Maulbronn. It takes time but the highway is crowded anyway. This place is an Unesco world heritage. A ticket to enter the monastry is 7Euros but the old village surrounding it is free.Although it is worth tonstay longer, visit may be completed in 30 minutes. Overwhelming.

The spectacular monastery complex, a variety of buildings well preserved intact almost thousand years, is included in the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO as the oldest and preserved medieval monastery in Europe. During visiting hours there are conducted guided tours in different languages, but a map and a booklet (to buy in information booth at the entrance) are sufficient to explore the monastery complex independently. After an intensive stroll you'll find pleasant cafes and restaurants in the original buildings of the complex.

Especially if you are a history buff you will enjoy this ancient location. Being an abbey it is peaceful and spiritual. The architecture is amazing. Do get an audio tour so you can appreciate what you are seeing, this is very well done. Plenty of room for kids to be kids.

Maulbronn is small but worth a visit. The square is beautiful and takes you back to a different era.The abbey itself is simple but very pretty and well preserved.

Many buildings and structured are preserved, the main Abbey with magnificent inner spaces, the yard with walls, gates, former workshops, etc. There are several food and coffee options at place, plenty of parking. We combined the walk in the nearby forest with the Abbey visit.

To appreciate this site to the full one needs a guide - either in human form or the available audio guide which is excellent. I aprticularly liked the way in which for many of the 'stops' one could get additional information by using additional key entries, thus enabling you to take the tour at a reasonable or slow pace, depending upon your time constraints.

It's nice place and building itself is beautiful. But some of buildings are being repaired. Furthermore there are only a few buses and there's no train on weekday. I recommend you use taxi. But most of drivers can only speak German.
