Great wintersport location. This year was my 9th year in a row and I still love to be there. The people at the Thoma wintersport Schule are really nice. When I was younger I took lessons there. Great hospitality. We stayed at the Feldbergerhof, which is a great hotel for families. The hotel also has a really nice swimmingpool which opens at 10 AM and 'closes' at 10 PM. In the Swarzwald they have the Schwarzwalderhochkarte. This is a card where with you get a lot of extras. You can travel by bus and train for free in the area, you can go to several museums for free or at least with a good discount, during winter time it even includes a skipass and don't forget to go to the Baden Paradies. Here you can fully relax after a day of skiing/snowboarding or just chill out in the 'Palmenoase', which is an area where only people above 16+ can get entrance. It also has a sauna area and it has over 16 waterslides. To conclude: The feldberg feels like home to me, and I'm sure it will feel like home to you too! It has a lot to offer, is nearly located to the border of Switzerland, has the amazing Schwarzwalderhoch karte and is a great place to ski/snowboard/snowkite/hike or mountainbike!

Feldberg is the highest mountain in the Black Forest - but not the most beautiful. Sadly it bears the scars of thoughtless development hatched in the 70s in an effort to please the masses. And, it seems it does please them, as they come in droves, many not even bothing to climb the 176m from the carpark to the top on foot. (There is cable car and skilift access). Feldberg is always busy, and to be fair, on a clear day the vista from up there are beautiful - sweeping 360 degree views across the Black Forest, the Vosges, the swabian Jura and most impressively, the Alps. Hopefully, the fact that it has been declared a nature reserve will mean that there will be no further development and that, in time, some of the scars of degradation will heal. If you want to experience the beauty of the area don't head up to the top via the shortest route, but hike up from a little further afield (need good stamina). Nice for a day's hike starting in Hinterzarten.

When this ski resort is covered in thick snow, and operating as designed, it's very good. At least, it was when I worked there - 50 years ago! I've been back twice, each time in the Summer, and found it to have changed for the worse. Development has not been sensitive to the setting - buildings seem to have been thrown up to make a quick euro. A pity - as the highest mountain in Germany, it deserves better.

Not to be missed, a visit to the Black Forest is certainly a must in this area. The views are fantastic.

Its very nice to be there in summer. The view from the top is amazing but should bring a warm coat cause its cold on top eventhough the sun is shinning. You can started from Feldsee and hiking thourgh beautiful autumn forest to Feldberg and climb to the top of the hill. I was satisfy with this half day trip. Last but not least, you also can see some fantacy sights from the train when you go from Freiburg to Feldberg.

This is a lovely day out for when it's dry. The Feldberg is a high, treeless hill which you can access on foot or with a cable car ride. Amazing views at the top, we have been several times and always choose to ride up and walk back down to make the most of the scenery. There are shops and restaurants at the bottom for refreshments and souvenirs and also a fascinating visitor centre which is very good, particularly if you speak a little German.

The ski centre here provides a good base from which to access local hiking routes and to access the summit of the Feldberg via the cable car. When we visited (early August) it was heaving and it is clear that the German's are in danger of loving it to death in the same way as we are with our own "honeypots" in the Lake District. A good day out, but if it's solitude you're after look elsewhere.

We were staying in Freiburg for a few days. Had planned prior to travel to see a tiny sneak peak of the vast Schwarzwald. We only had one day reserved for this. We got a map and some hiking tips and routes in written form from tourist office. We asked some locals for hiking tips: what would they recommend for 4-5 hours hike? Everyone said "Titisee", which is a small like near Freiburg. Arrived to Titisee early in the morning. We found out it is basically just a small lake which you can walk around along the borders. If you have ever been to Finnish Archipelago, you would know that for a Finn, this was not really a sight/much mentioning for. So, we took a bus to Feldberg. There were 6-10 different trails to choose from. You can reach the top of Feldberg basically by "hiking" around 20 minutes from the Nature House/main parking lot. It is not much of a walk/hike if you are in good fit. If not, it`s still manageable, so I`d say it`s a good tourist attraction/sight. From top of Feldberg, the are great mountain views. If you want to see a beautiful lake inside the forest, you can walk the opposite direction and it`s about 30 minutes hike throughout the forest to the Feldsee. We did a 12.2 km trail around Feldberg starting from the "Nature House" and ending there as well. On trail-information it was estimated to take about 4 hours. It took us exactly 3h 58 minutes, so well done trail-guide! Our 4 hours included 40 minutes stop at an 300 years old inn (or so they said on the sign…) for applecake and coffee as well as at least 20 minutes altogether for birdwatching and photographing. It is not really hiking, if you have ever hiked in Finnish Lapland/Alps/any other place in the world…it`s more like relaxed Sunday-walk with tens of other walkers in the forest. For a Finn, very social event. The first part of the trail (to the top of Feldberg) is on asphalt! Still, you need to be able to go up and down on forest footpaths, so have a good pair of shoes on for the longer trails. Most of other hikers spoke German with us, there were a lot of families and middle-aged couples.

Great view of Feldsee. You can reach this lake for 30 minutes from the top of Feldberg. Many hiking tracks. Basic one is going from Felberg to Breitnau and back. You can see many calm views and panoramas of Schwarzwald forest. You can reach Feldberg from Freiburg city using train from Hauptbahnhof (central train station) to Feldberg-Barental station and a bus from Feldberg-Barental to Felberg. If you want you can use Feldbergbahn in addition to reach the very top of the mountain.

First, we went there in Easter, which is really "off peak" for most of Germany. There were hardly any people. However, it seems like the place is extremely busy during skiing and summer season. You can take your car very close to the top. From there, either a 30 min hike up the top or a cable car ride. When we went up the cable car, it was really foggy, so couldnt see much. Later in the afternoon things cleared up, so we decided to go again (paying euro 19 again). The views from the top were breathtaking. You can see most of blackforest, feldsee, even upto Jungfrau. It was spectacular. Take warm clothes even if you are going in Easter as it is cold. There was still some snow around. There are other walks and nature trails as well, which we didnt go on. Overall a must-visit

Summer is the right time for getting to Feldberg (the highest mountain in Black Forest). The walk to get to the Bismark monument was a bit tyring, because we did not get the expensive mountain cable. Once there, we go up into the tower, and there were an explanation about the mountains sorrounding Feldberg. It was a clear day, but we are not really sure if we were able to see Mount Blank, quite over the clouds, or we were just imaginating new things. After that, we visited the top peak of Black Forest: Feldberd. It was really a nice place. I cannot imagine how it looks like in winter!

We wanted to get out of the hustle and bustle. Took a Tram to Feldberg, where a cable car takes you up a mountain. At the top beautiful vistas of the Black Forest and lots of hiking trails through beatiful forests and meadows. Also a very nice and reasonably priced restaurant - full of locals so has to be good!
