This is a museum for airplanes and automobiles and motorcycles and spacecraft! Mostly airplane theme with many surprises and lots of fun. You could EASILY spend an entire day here and still feel as if you didn't see everything you wanted to. It's an enormous place! Well laid out and easy to get around, well marked, food and restrooms are here, the people are very friendly. You can see this history of airplanes here. Some rare treats are an actual Messerschmitt Jet Airplane from WWII with the Nazi markings and camo paint job (one of the first jet planes ever made) also a Russian Space Shuttle (what?) yes it's true. Here in America you don't hear much about Russian space shuttles but there's one here at this place! Locomotives, Horseless carriages, old motorcycles, all are laid out and well displayed and extremely interesting! There's even a movie in the Imax theater here which I did not have time to see. There was a group of elementary school age kids there, obviously on a field trip from school. This place is safe, fun and clean. After you watch the movie, or not, and look at all the planes, many of which you can actually enter this inside of, and check out all the other fun and cool things at this place, you get to climb up a long flight of stairs and see the inside of a 747 jumbo jet! The trip up the steps is a 'one way' trip though as you get down via a very fast and fun slide! That is the only ride here.Excellent neighborhood, tons of fun stuff to see, clean, nice and very interesting! The price was reasonable but not cheap. (around $15-30 US I believe). It's really amazing how far we have come in the past 100 years since the first airplane was invented by the Wright Bro's in 1909. Nowhere is it better illustrated than at this place! If you are in Speyer, DONT miss the Technik Museum! It's AWESOME!!

Even technophobes will find something to amuse them in this eclectic collection of technology, from fire trucks (how did two Pennsylvania fire engines end up here?) to the Soviet Buran Space Shuttle. There are many interesting automobiles, trucks, trains, boats and planes, and it is possible to get very close, even inside many exhibits. One climbs many steps to get up to a Lufthansa 747, and once inside, can examine areas, like the cargo hold, not normally seen by ordinary folks. After walking out on the jumbo's wing and looking out over the rest of the museum's outdoor displays, it isn't even necessary to walk down the steps. Take the twisty stainless-steel slide for a quick descent - but make sure to grab one of the heavy fabric sabots before climbing up - it serves as a sled to protect shoes and coat as you rocket down the chute. In contrast with risk-averse museums in the USA, one finds that the aircraft displays are poised at various angles, which means that it is necessary to watch one's step on steeply canted aircraft floors, or while climbing ladders or stairs inside the aircraft. There aren't any attendants to make sure visitors don't do something stupid while clambering around the displays or zipping down the tubular slides. Despite the crowds, we didn't witness any careless or thoughtless behavior on the part of the mainly German patrons, adult or juvenile, and everyone was clearly having a whale of a time. If one doesn't care to explore airplanes or submarines or steam engines, there are many beautiful cars to admire, as well as orchestral machines that run on perforated paper like player pianos -- and a full sized carousel to boot. This place is just plain fun!

If you like Cars, Planes, Trains, Trucks, U Boats, Helicopters - This is the place for you!I was truly amazed at how much they have to offer. The highlight was the Boeing 747 which you can wander round in, just fantastic. A really great attraction.

While many people on your River Boat Cruise visit other attractions you should take the fifteen minute walk to the Speyer technical museum. There are first class displays which have effective explanations for each exhibit. They are housed in two enormous buildings. Did you know that Mr Bosch began by manufacturing twelve items and the company is now responsible for 350,000 technical parts (not all 350,000 are on display I hasten to add). The Space Race is very well documented with giant posters showing the sequence of events. Numerous aircraft are on display within the two buildings and in the yard. There are a few steps for you to climb in order to view the interior of the 747. You have a choice of two modes of transport back to the yard. Coins are necessary to start the Hay Making Machine, the Merry-Go-Round, the Organs and the Drive Wheels of the seven Steam Trains. Bookings are necessary if you wish to see the films in the theatre. The shows are excellent. Make sure you put aside some time to view the workings of the numerous model trains. You know, you may need more than six hours.

Well worth visiting this museum if you ever find yourself in Speyer. Plenty to see both inside and out for both young and old. Cafes and restaurants available, clean toilets too.

Must place to visit. Huge complex full of technik thing from the past. Russian space shuttle Buran etc. Tickets were 13€ for the museum. Imax theather is extra. Recommend lots of parking place, and the price for parking is not bad.

Take your time here, enjoy some of the unique pieces you can find. Some excellent examples of aircraft from F-15's and F-4's to a J35 Draken and more. There is a 1950's era submarine to walk through which seemed way smaller than even the WW2 submarines I've toured. A nice assortment of Soviet era fighters and helicopters also, including an ASW MI-14 with the weapons station still there. Unique automobiles...where to start. 4 late 20's/early 30's Bentleys, old Mercedes, BMWs, AUDIs, and an amazing Mercedes tucked under the Buran and enough firetrucks to assault a massive fire. Did I say trains? Oh yeah, a wide assortment of 20th century engines to look at. The never been to space Soviet Space Shuttle, Buran, is also on display. It is quite impressive, even if it never worked. There is a small, abused lift (test) body beside it that could explain why it never flew. But it is still impressive. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in the museum and I still cannot believe the variety of pieces presented. Definitely worth the trip!

This is a great place to spend time (hours!!) to explore all exhibitions arrayed over two levels. Trains, planes, automobiles, fire engines, space travel, bicycles, etc... It also has a restaurant adjunct to the facility - so a whole day out here is well recommended.

...but there is so much that you can get into, rather than just look - cars, buses, bikes, boats, planes, even a submarine - it's not everywhere that you get to walk along the wing of a Jumbo jet 20m above the ground (you might need a head for heights). Ideally this is a place to visit for a full day, there is so much to see, both indoors and outdoors. Highly recommended.

I really don't have enough words to express my surprise with Technik Museum! It is absolutely fantastic experience and really great vision. You have a opportunity to see, feel and how it is to be a submariner, pilot, captain and you can do that by climbing on there models which are - quite unique - on the height of few meters in the air.You can see in few large hangars all the models, cars, bikes even Space Shuttle and space run. And outside there is a big space with submarines, boats, planes, aircraft engines etc.The price for the ticket is 14 euros for adults and if you like to see movies in IMAX the price is 20 euros and it is worth it! If you like you can spend whole afternoon or a day in Museum and you want be bored. It is excellent for adults and for kids too!I definitely recommend everyone to visit this exquisitely place!

Its not often that you can go inside a WW2 U-Boat, or a Jumbo jet, or a Rescue vessel, but all this is possible at this amazing museum. The space shuttle section is ,however, the best of all the exhibits. This is a museum that allows you to go inside many exhibits and covers a wide range of interests. It is a full-day attraction a little of the normal travellers route. Well worth the time to see.

Our son and I visited and fell in love with the museum. We're both "Gearheads" in addition to loving aircraft, boats, trains, you name it if it is mechanical. Our son still speaks about it, and in fact mentioned one of his best friends just visited last week, so they spent hours talking about the exhibits last night. If you have a gearhead or mecho fanatic in your family, this is a great place to take them. Of course, if you're not also crazy about the same, find someone else to visit with them, as you don't want to rush them through. We spent 7 hours in the museum and it wasn't enough. We're headed back next year!

If you can, just go. Its all been said before. Two buildings along with outside displays full of planes, trains, vehicles, motor cycles, etc. You leave just awestruck. Go to the museum next door (Historisches Museum der Pfalz) as it is included in the price.
