Quite a fascinating aray of caves and natural passageways with a mass of stalactites and stalagmites discovered only 76 years ago. The caves go to depths of almost 200 feet or more, definitely worth a visit.

Pictures don't due justice to the beauty of these caves. The colors, the sheer magnitude of the site is something that has to been seen firsthand. I highly recommend a visit to the Grotte if you are in the area.

Having little to no interest in visiting these caves I was persuaded to go anyway by my girlfriend, and I am glad I did. The size of the caves is remarkable and the English speaking guide was informative but without overdoing it. The price seemed fairly reasonable for this type of attraction. If you don't have much time the shorter tour is definitely worth it.I personally didn't come prepared and would recommend a sweater as the caves get cold (Even in the summer), you should also take some proper shoes or trainers (not espadrilles or sandals).

I had read about these caves before going to Italy. I was fascinated by the pictures, which I must say didn't do very justice to the actual experience. I went with my family as they had not been there either, even though they live close to the region. What can I say about these caves? The first thing you notice as you enter is the magnificent almost dome-like cave is how enormous it is. You see the first signs of something really beautiful as different colors already greet you. As you walk down the path you pass through different caves (they follow a chain like route). There are so many of them so we chose the small tour about 1 km (the other is 2 km). Amazing colors and shapes. These caves carved out by waters for millennia make you feel like Alice in Wonderland.Outside there are plenty of trees and vegetation for those who like to picnic.I would suggest you bring something worm with you as the caves are pretty chilly even in the heat of the summer.

First time visiting. Amazing. It was over the christmas season so could see the nativity. Unfortunately caves were closed for the full tour. Would definitely visit again. Very friendly and helpful guides.

The caves are very well tourist oriented. We had an English speaking guide which was excellent. For us it was strange to find a nice big caves in Puglia. Definitely wort a visit.

We went there in family, with 4 kids under 10 and gave it a go.The set-up is simply magic and unbelievable. The tourist organization of the site is mature and while we were off season, I can imagine that the place can be really crowded in summer. The prices are not low but the tour is worth going there. Not for the guide really, as the usual "blasé" attitude doesn't really bring much to the walk but the overall décor and landscape, underground is properly magic. It's a long walk, about 2 hours of semi flat and it goes from the surface to minus 76 meters. It is nice inside as the temperature is about 20 degrees, but with a high humidity level. It can feel claustrophobic at some stages, but the scenery makes you and the little ones forget that you are underground. The white cave, at the end is simply magical and it makes you want to read again the Jules Verne book about earth exploration. I recommend going there, and seeing it again and again.Mother nature is full of surprises, this is one of the spectacular ones.Advise: Take good walking shoes, as it can be slippery at stages and the shoes will be stained white at the end.

If you've been to some of the larger caverns in the world, this one may not impress you but it is an interesting site. The tour is not the best...you will likely be herded into large groups that make hearing the guide virtually impossible. But the main attraction is the caverns themselves so do not let this deter you from visiting. Enjoy the views and be impressed by the wonder of it all.

My wife and I have never been in a cave before and found the Grotte to be awe-inspiring in terms of the towering heights and incredible time-scale it The so-called "White Cave" (really a beeswax beige) is lovely indeed but was perhaps anticlimactic given the build-up of expectations since it is nor as grand in scope as the first cave ("Grave"), and since there is only a small viewing "balcony" rail where the entire group bunches up for about five minutes before heading back. It felt as if we had arrived at the end of 1.5km of walking for a brief look. So, I would say in retrospect that we might have done the short itinerary instead of the full one though we will remember the Grotte as an overall highlight of our trip.Note as well that though the Grotte materials say there are no bathrooms, there are some outside the entrance, but you have to pay 50 cents to do your business.

As per all the previous reviews, these caves are stunning and worth the effort. If you using the train, get down at grotte di castellana n not the other one..or you will hv to walk just about 2kms to get to the caves!Do the long walk..the white caves are definitely the highlight of it all.The English guided tours are only at 11am n 4pm...so do plan it well, n be ready for any cancellations or changes regarding the trains in Southern Italy (which is what happened in my case)!

At a constant 17 degrees C - 62 degrees F these caves are very cool! Breathtaking views and fun to be a spelunker explorer for the day. The tour at €15 p/p including guide is well worth the visit. The walk is approximately 3 kms long and takes approximately 1.5 hours. Guides operate in several languages but you should check to see when your preferred language departs. The path can be a bit wet and slippery so wear a good hiking shoe or boot.

As said our guide, this cave is a symphony of spells ... what we see here, sustains his breath. This is the queen of all caves, all are special but this one has a special story and catacter. Each part of this cave reflet the grandeur of a world unknown to us. Can not lose !!
