The castle is attractive from the outside. The inside is mostly just a museum. The best part of this site is the outside and will take about 30 minutes at most to see.

This zone of Puglia is well-known for various medieval castles. One of them is located in Barletta. It's approximately 1 hour walk around with a nice view from the top.

this is a great way to spend an hour or two in Barletta. Don't be put off by the woman who has to unlock the upper floor of the museum for you. she obviously does not enjoy her job and sighs and follows you around like a puppy while you look around. I was the only one in the place, but I knew that if I just stuck to my guns and took my time, she would eventually get tired, and find a chair to park herself in, which is exactly what happened. She needs other work! Other than that, though, it is wonderful to be able to explore the fortress, and take in the incredible coastline, and cityscape that surround it.

Except the castle itself there is not much to see inside. The collection of artifacts is moderate, but still you can see some interesting pieces

I love old castles and this is one of the most wonderful medieval castles I have ever seen. It was built by the Normans and the architecture is fantastic. It originally was surrounded by the sea. Today the moat is dry and the sea is a short distance away. I felt they have tried to maintain the integrity of the original structure and It is interesting to wander around inside and imagine what it was like hundreds of years ago. It is beautiful and in very good condition. There are some interesting stone coats of arms in the courtyard. Visit the very top of the castle for fabulous views and also to see the structures that were built there so the locals could witness beheadings. The castle is still used today for city events and a museum but no beheadings!. I think any castle buff will enjoy visiting this gem.

If you are fond of castles you can not miss this place. It is interesting to attempt to recreate the medieval atmosphere by projections of images of the era. There is a collection of everyday objects from the nineteenth century, that might attract attention.

as I said in the title there are a few explanations along the tour route, the structure is impressive, the dungeons are huge but the floors (gravel) is not very clean: often hosts exhibitions but otherwise is a "transition" very impressive but few facilities: its ancient finds in its internal lack of explanations: the site "barlettamusei.it" does not exist, the site "travel in puglia"-viaggiareinpuglia.it-, has an audio guide in Italian only: one Solution you ask at reception. For the rest of this typical defensive structure was established in Norman times and although restored subsequently maintain a really nice line: after all seen the low price for access would recommend a visit.

What more can I say. The "red room" in the castle hosted my wedding and made for a great backdrop to the photos. A very nice castle.

Gostei bastante!
