Erice is a small old town on a mountain. You can either drive to the top which is quite easy or else take the cable car. We went there during christmas holidays and in the evening. You can walk around the old narrow streets full of souvenir shops and restaurants. In the centre there was like a small christmas market with a beautiful atmosphere such as music. There were cribs for people to view too. For lunch or dinner one can find a lot of restaurants to choose from, some of them with a beautiful view. Worth a visit.

You can find there everything: historical sights, churches, beautiful beaches, shopping, and nice people.

This is a small old town perched atop a mountain. You can drive or take the cable car. The views are spectacular from the moment you start going up. You can walk all around town in a morning or an afternoon, view the Norman ruins and the old castle, have lunch and shop for souvenirs. It can be cold and windy in the winter so take a warm jacket and hat. It's a sight not to be missed.

Definitely a tourist trap, but a great aerial view of all of Trapani plus a good hike through a village that appears to be in the middle of no where in the mountains. Worth a stop.

Having my family who lives at Trapani, I visited Erice quite a lot and must say that it is the most beautiful place in the whole island. Going around during the day one can admire the stunning views of the area with the Egadi Islands. Entering the castle's gate is like a time machine where one goes back in time, clouds going up the rock face adds to the middle ages atmosphere. A must when in Erice is the tasting of the pastry and sweets - quite unique. I enjoyed some good food in the main square late in the evening. One can either go there by car of by cable car.

If you are touring Sicily, make it a point to visit Erice. It is stunningly beautiful. Go to the castle on the top of the hill. On a clear day you can see Tunisia, Africa. Enjoy the food and beauty as you walk through the cobblestone streets. A highlight of Sicily.

It is worth going up in the evening to see the sunset, then come back in dark to see the lights of Trapani.

Any place called sacred has my immediate attention. Add to that the words goddess of fertility, Aphrodite and beautiful priestesses offering themselves in prostitution and i don't need to read brochures, anymore. my femme looks suspiciously in my direction but my cheeky smile that is pure bravado keeps her attention focussed on me . Boys will be boys and NO, we never grow up. Located with a few ruins, Erice sits atop Mt San Giuliano, high above the Trapani Sea. there is ancient magic in the air as well as whispers of pretty ghosts. its silence is golden and add to the attractiveness and sacredness of the place. the town itself has been able to harness modernity without chucking out the bathwater of antiquity. A sweeping panoramic view looks out towards the horizon, as well as the port which used to be the fortifications long ago. A walk is a must to be able to appreciate the town's medieval layout, not unlike a jigsaw puzzle with its stone buildings clinging to each other. Craftsmen's shops especially around Piazza Vittorio Emanuele have preserved the massive stone shelves from where shopkeepers lean out onto the street with their wares. Only by walking can you appreciate the smells and scents of the local sweetmeats and interact with the locals and their lovely private gardens which they always will grant a looksee if you ask politely

The views from the mountain road to Erice yield beautiful views over the Mediterranean Sea to the Egadi Islands.

touristy at points, but superb location. Go up by the gondola for the views. Go round the castle, and visit the museum if you are interested in the history of the area

We wanted to take the cable car to Erice from Tranpani, but the wind was too strong on the only day we had available. We took the bus which was also great because it does give you great views of the hill to this lovely little town so high up on the mountain. It was great to explore Erice and walk the cobble stoned streets.A fascinating place with good restaurants and terrific marzipan.

The roads leading to Erice are long and winding. The buildings are incredible, it is such a beautiful place and the views are outstanding. There are many very beautiful cafes and restaurants. It is a very special place to see and is a must if you are on this side of the island

We loved our visit to the hilltop town of Erice led by local guide, Aldo Trapani. Aldo was informative and entertaining and gave us a good overview of this area of Sicily. Erice was mostly deserted the end of October but we found a few open shops, great canoli and marzipan. After our tour of Erice and the salt beds, we had a wonderful lunch at a small restaurant owned by Aldo's friends. We decided on a local guide in Erice as we were on a cruise and the ship's land tour to Erice was very short and we wanted more time to explore the area. Thanks, Aldo. We really enjoyed meeting you!

The town of Erice and its great little walking path are a must see for every visitor in the Trapani area. The views are breathtaking and it also offers lots of shopping and restaurants. The best way to get there is by the cable car which is also quite cheap.

If you see Erice on the top of a mountain and you are having second thoughts about visiting it - please just keep driving! I was a bit skeptical when my friend suggested we go see Erice, but it was definitely worth it. It is a beautiful town with stone streets and houses, a castle and a breath-taking view on Sicily. The entrance fee for both the castle and museum I think was 5 Euros and I recommend you to sacrifice one coffee and visit them. It can be a bit windy, hence I say bring a jacket. There is also a lot of walking around and sneakers are also a smart idea. All in all, I loved Erice and it is one of the best memory I have from my vacation on this beautiful island.
