The lighthouse itself is interesting enough: it was built in the middle of 19th century and is second the oldest lighthouse in Latvia. It is highest above sea level of all Latvian lighthouses (stands on the bank of the prehistoric post glacial lake) and had no light until the sixties of the 20th century as it was mainly used for navigation during the daytime. Now you can climb to the top of it to enjoy the views and a small exhibition.Immediately behind the lighthouse there are stairs leading to the Slitere Nature Trail (steep and rather long climb!). The trail leads through an old broadleaf forest and through mire and is very much worth to take. Note, that board trail may be slippery when wet.
