We stopped in Cesis primarily to visit the castle, but nearby is the lovely St John's Church. As we walked from the castle, we could see the beautiful spire. When we rounded the corner, there was a lovely sculputure as if the fellow had come directly from the castle, lantern in hand. The doors to the church were open and we could hear music. It was a wonderful visit. The church is located well in the old town pedestrian area which adds to the ambience indeed.

The church itself is hardly worth a visit, but for 1€ you can go upstairs (100 steps) to the bell tower with a nice view over Cesis

Located in city center, very nice and big church. You can go in and climb tower up, but we lazy because walk all day.

The church looks impressive despite the worn exterior. The best part of this though is the climb to the top of the tower and lookout over Cesis town.

Beautiful little church in the square of Cesis, has been built in the 13th century, however the Gothic tower was built in the 1800 's.The church survived the damages of WWII

The church is in the centre of the old town of Cesis which largely survived the damage of WW2. Small church near the square with a fountain that children love to play in in summer. We have been to a number of excellent Concerts during the Cesis Music Festival including Inese Galante and the Kings College Cambridge Choir. Usually has a pretty flower festival in the summer. Cafes nearby.

13th century St John’s Church is in the town square. It was during the Cesis Art Festival that we attended a concert of organ, saxophone and metzzo soprano – a strange mixture you might think, and we certainly did, but it was such a perfect blending of voice and instrument that at times you could hardly distinguish what was what. You sat in church pews facing the front and the action was up and behind you. The music filled the church such that at times it vibrated up from your feet into your bottom. What an amazing experience. Beautiful.

Wondered in during a little walk around the town, little old lady who did not speak very much English gave us a little tour. It was very pretty and full of History.

St John's Church in Cesis is one of the oldest medieval monuments in Latvia. It was built at the beginning of the 1200s as Christianity advanced into Latvia, and consecrated in 1284. The tower spire was built in 1853. This was the cathedral of the Livonian Order; masters, priests and knights of the order are buried in the church. It is the largest medieval basilica outside Riga in Latvia.This church is next to the Cesis Medieval Castle. Facing the castle information center, go to the left around the castle complex, down a street, and you will find the church.

Внешне создает благоприятное впечатление, особенно учитывая годы постройки. Внутрь не попали. Церковь действующая.

Церковь возведена в 1281-1284 годах как главный собор Ливонского ордена — колоссальное по тем временам сооружение. В соборе хранится вторая по величине в Лптвии коллекция каменных надгробных плит (около 30 штук), также стоит обратить внимание на роскошные витражи.Поднявшись по крутым (очень) лестницам на смотровую площадку, можно прочувствовать высоту здания и увидеть город (меня открывшийся вид не впечатлил).

Одна из главных достопримечательностей Цесиса с отличным видом на город и окрестности. Случайно попали на органный концерт, что оставило еще больше впечатлений.

Один и старейших соборов Латвии .Его величественное здание возвышается в центре городка , можно подняться на башню по лестнице , расположенной справа при входе.Монументально и величественно . Очень жаль , что не удалось послушать орган во время службы.

Церковное убранство, а так же вид на город с закрытой церковной колоколни. Не понравилось что информации о самой церкви очень мало

Величественный старинный католический собор. Внутри тишина и приятная прохлада. Красивейшие гербовые витражи над алтарём. Красота!А над входом расположен небольшой оргАн, сейчас здесь проходят концерты всемирно известных хоров и органной музыки.Можно подняться наверх по узкой средневековой лестнице, на втором этаже фотовыставка, дальше преодолев две деревянные лестницы(как на даче)попадаем на четвёртый этаж откуда открываются симпатичные виды на весь городок.
